the bus driver, 51-year-old gale brown, along with the bus attendant, 57-year-old gwendolyn simmons, are both charged with two counts of negligent child abuse. meredith: parents in one volusia county neighborhood say they' re all about area growth, but not at the expense of their children. for some students, it means having to walk almost three miles to the next bus stop. there is work going on right now to expand the riveria bella subdivision in debary. the city closed parts of fort florida road for construction, but parents and school leaders didn' t know. the bus stop for eight students in elementary, middle and high schools had to move nearly three miles away. parents and teachers say it' too far for students to walk. >> if you' re going to start closing these roads and we can' t get home or we can' t get our kids to school, the city needs to plan for it. >> the way that the road is situated, we cannot turn around our buses and we don' t back up buses with children on board, so there is no other option but to the next established bus stop which is 2.8 miles away from their origin
