blood found on the wall of the gym, for instance, was never tested. now attorneys are hoping surveillance evidence could show what really happened. our victor blackwell has been doing extensive reporting on the story. he joins me. >> victor, you discovered there's footage from security cameras in the gym when kendrick johnson died. does it shed any light on his death? >> not much yet. we know that there are at least four cameras in this gym. we requested all of the stills. they take stills and not streaming video. they sent us these stills, seven pictures of kendrick running into the gym. we asked what about the pictures after this and before it? we were told those are considered educational records. and only because we have clearance from the johnsons can we have pictures of kendrick. but any other pictures could be exempt because it would show a student's educational record. >> does that mean there are other students in the pictures taken prior or after what they've released? >> that's the implication. but when that was our followup question, are th

>> well, we see two clips coming from surveillance cameras, one inside the gym and one outside the gyma, the image outside the gym. we blurred the images of the other students because they're minors but you see kendrick johnson walk into the gym behind another student. now, we don't have a time stamp for that, but he appears to be wearing the same clothing on the day that he was found in that mat, that white t-shirt with an orange t-shirt and genes and orange and gray sneakers. there is also an image from inside the gym. we know this one is 1:09 and 47 second. because the stills of kendrick running across the bottom right of that image were released and that was a time stamp there. there are three students playing basketball in the foreground of that shot. and we know that was just minutes before sheriff deputies at least believe that kendrick went into the mat and that's where he died. so, a very short time between the time that image was taken and when the next class came in. the class that said they didn't see or smell or notice anything out of the ordinary. a very small window. >>

let's look at this video inside the gym.s matches the videos we were given several months ago showing him running along the right bottom front of the screen. you see three students playing basketball. this is stamped 1:09 p.m. which is minutes before according to the sheriff's office kendrick climbed into the mat. so we know there were student ace peering to be casually playing basketball. let's talk about the file, ashleigh. we now know every person who was interviewed, every lead that they followed, and we know to sheriff's office focused in on just a couple of students pulling their attendance records, pulling their class schedules, not doing it for other students and they focused on other teenagers so at least we know they were focusing on their investigation there. so there's still a lot more, hundreds of pages and maybe 2,000 hours of surveillance. 40 cameras in and around the gym. interestingly enough, one more thing, his attorneys, the attorneys do not expect that the moment kendrick climbs in with all these cameras

an orange and black gym shoe found near kendrick's body. parents say it didn't belong to their son, but it appears there is blood on the shoe, or at least some red markings. investigators concluded the stains were something other than blood, so the shoe was not collected as potential evidence. and a sweatshirt found near the body which may have blood on the cuff. but the lab report does not indicate it was tested, either. a former fbi agent told us he was dumbfounded, indicating that all this potential evidence should have been collected. kendrick's parents never believed the official conclusion about their son's death and hired a private pathologist to perform a second autopsy. what that pathologist found is shocking. >> reporter: it's the second time jacqueline johnson cried at her son kendrick's grave. the second time he was being lower sbud the groued into the . this time he was being pulled out of it. in june kendrick's body was sent to florida. the john sons hired dr. bill anderson to perform an independent second autopsy. in that aut
