[laughter] but my mother was seriously funny, which has made it easy for me to deal with the other students because students would come out after a class and talk about how my mother had told some jackass sitting in the back row what an asshole he was. my mother would say the reason you have to learn this is because in two years, when i drive up to the sears on the corner to get my gas, i don't want you to be standing there pumping it. [laughter] i got my mother -- part of what formed the way i look at things is my parents, we would sit around with my brother, my parents, myself and walter cronkite. i literally thought until a few years ago that walter cronkite was a part of my family.
