has the monument, seattle has the needle. they make planes, we make legislation very slowly. washington has tourists, seattle has techies. wait for it, seattle has a nice hot cup of starbucks coffee while we here have a nice hot bowl of chili. >> which is the better city? >> no question all washington. always washington. >> let's also not forget the redskins have won three super bowls while seattle's sports championship game in 1979 when the super sonics defeated the washington bullets. >>> snow in canada and winter doesn't generally surprise many people, but the amount that fell in montreal over the last week certainly did. five days after 20 inches of snow fell, the city says only 48% of the streets and sidewalks are cleared. by law crews can only work 70 hours a week, so it's hindering clean up efforts. cities are hoping to finish the bulk of the streets by this coming sunday. >>> there will be plenty of fireworks to see in the sky this week because of the first meteor shower of the year to keep this week in the northern hemisphere. nasa says people watching the shower could see as many as 40 shooting stars an hour. if that happens then it could be quite the show. >> yes, absolutely, but we might have a few clouds to deal with. it looks like we will start seeing clearing overnight tonight, which will be terrific news, but we are also going to see the breezes coming up as a consequence of the clearing skies as well. i will tell you why in just a second. but take a look outside. we are looking live at the reagan national airport right now. lots of clouds are still in place, but fairly mild. it's 45 degrees, which is also our high temperature. the clouds are helping to keep the temperature from dipping during the overnight hours so far. winds out of the northwest at 8 miles per hour. those winds will continue to bring in a cooler and drier air mass. that's why we will see some clearing tonight in your weather headlines, but it will be breezy on wednesday and that cooler arctic air is trying to sneak on down here. that will leave it chilly during the entire rest of the shortened workweek. a few flakes are possible this weekend, but no accumulating snow in the weekend just yet. right now it is 39 degrees in manassas. a big contract to the 45 in d.c. 43 in annapolis. 49 in easton. and not too bad here either where it is also 39 degrees. you can see the showers and even pockets of heavier rain showing up on satellite and radar. it is all continuing to move off to the east as you head into wednesday. so you will still have the rain in southern virginia down towards norfolk and the neck of virginia, but that is all going to head out to the east as we head into wednesday and here in the d.c. metro, we're just going to see bright sunshine to start out the day. however the sunshine a little deceiving because it will be a little bit on the cool and breezy side. winds are out of the north with an area of high pressure situated to the west, which will continue to keep things breezy as we head into the afternoon on wednesday. but overnight tonight just the clouds moving out. it will be chilly. but those winds are not too bad. 26 to 32 for your overnight lows. winds are out of the north at 5 to 10 miles per hour. and it will be a bit breezy under mostly sunny skies. make sure the kids have their winter coats. temperatures in the 30s, but windchills in the 20s with the winds out of the north increasing just a little bit. in the afternoon it will be breezy and cooler with the sunny skies and the high between 35 to 40 degrees. winds are out of the north, which will give us a windchill in the upper 20s to the lower 30s throughout the day. but the 9 weather alerts remain green for the next few days. breezy on wednesday and a high of 38 on wednesday. it doesn't look as good on thursday. thursday will be a real nice day. mostly sunny with the high of 40. then on friday we'll bring back the chance for just a few flakes, flurries, no accumulating snow in that forecast. a high of 38 degrees. in the seven-day outlook, another chance of flurries on sunday. good timing right for the redskins game?
