at the first alert doppler, where that major atmospheric river has pushed its way into the bay area. this will be the case all morning long as heavy downpours -- as well as the heavy winds come up to 45 miles an hour at times. let's zoom into the local area, starting off with the north bay. currently, this is where the heavier pockets of rain are accumulating. this is a system that is pushing to the southeast. keep that in mind if you live closer to antioch. here is a lighter rain in certain spots in the south bay, but -- we are seeing some of the heavier cells. this is a quick moving system. hour by hour, things are changing into the sacramento valley . taking a look at the futurecast, starting off around 9:30 or 10:00. those heavier storms are still pushing their way into the north bay and the east bay. it tapers off around 11:00 where the south bay is getting hit with heavy downfall until about 1:00. the national weather service has issued a flood advisory throughout the bay area until 2:00. the big reason for that, if you live in those low-lying areas, you want to be extra careful for quick flights throughout this loc

in the south bay, we have construction at morgan hill as the work for the reservoir has begun. dustin dorsey explains why it is critical for water supply and how long it will take to complete. reporter: the south bay's biggest reservoir is getting a facelift. stage one of the anderson dam, seismic retrofit is underway after six month of delays. >> it is one of our most important pieces of water supply in santa clara county. infrastructures agent. we have an undersized pipe and a dam than his replacement. reporter: it is vulnerable to major earthquakes. that will be fixed during stage two of the project. during stage one, the current pipe that transports water out of the reservoir moves much too slow and needs to be replaced, this new 20 foot diameter 1750 foot tunnel will work 10 times faster. >> being able to get a large amount of water out of the reservoir helps us lower the reservoir in case there is an emergency such as an earthquake or large storm that can create a spill. the way we can move controlled water out of the reservoir. reporter: excavation began overnight. they are clearing 10 feet per day. it starts at the base of the old dam. the
