. >> good afternoon, i'm brian hackney. >> and i'm ann notarangelo. a 14-year-old is on the run after killing his sister. police are so desperate to find him, they are now offering an award. >> reporter: normally, they wouldn't release a juvenile's name, but but they are doing it because they think he is armed and dangerous. they are early morning mario toliver jr. to turn himself in and for everyone to stay away. the shooting happened in this apartment. siblings said to be very close to each other. >> i'm hurt. it is devastating that he has to go through this. >> reporter: thursday afternoon, neighbors heard two or three shots. a surveillance camera captured the teen leaving behind his dying sister, 17-year-old justice toliver. >> they are treating his as armed and dangerous. the reason is we have not recovered the weapon. >> reporter: so police searched a third day for the 14-year-old suspect now offering a $10,000 reward. the family is looking for him too. a father who has already lost his daughter doesn't want to lose his son, too. >> please son.

good evening, i'm brian hackney. >> i'm ann notarangelo. kpix 5's don knapp is in antioch with a close call for some homeowners. >> reporter: this stretch in antioch has had a dangerous run of bad luck. in just the past two weeks the two houses behind me have become number 2 and 3 to be struck by out-of-control vehicles. >> we were laying in bed and about 12:20 we hear a loud bang and the entire house shook. >> reporter: he heard a car slamming into his buchanan road home not far from where his elderly mother-in-law was sleeping. >> my mother-in-law was asleep in the bedroom. it could have went in on her. >> reporter: apparently, the car was traveling east at a high rate of speed when it hit the buchanan road center divider went over the westbound lanes on a curb taking out a pg&e transformer before slamming through a garage into his home. >> i ran out to the front yard and opened up the front door and there's a car laying upside- down in the front yard. >> reporter: the out-of-control vehicle ripped through the garage barely missing a car

meteorologist brian hackney has our new year's eve forecast. >> it sure isn't going to rain. we do have some fog and low clouds along the shoreline earlier today but now they have cleared out pretty nicely as we can see on the time lapse here. the only thing to worry about is it will be chilly at 9:00 on the embarcaderos, 53 degrees. at midnight, fireworks time looks like 46 degrees. all in all great night for fireworks. elsewhere around the bay area san jose will have 45 degrees about midnight. up in santa rosa 39. in general, in the 40s in the bay area and at worst fair skies but most locations will have clear skies. we'll have the forecast along with some high tides for tomorrow coming up when we do the forecast in a few minutes. >> thank you. >>> emotions running high tonight in the legal battle between children's hospital oakland and the family of jahi mcmath. linda yee on the new fight to keep hope alive for the 13-year- old girl who doctors say is brain-dead. >> reporter: allen, late this afternoon, the family of jahi mcmath actually filed a request with the state appe

i'm brian hackney. >> and i'm ann notarangelo. 49ers are about to touch down at san jose's airport. this is the scene at the private charter jet terminal where the 49 49 plane should be pulling up any minute. brian webb is just down the road and fans are lined up there waiting for the team's victorious return. >> reporter: we're awaiting the team's arrival here. check it out in the parking lot, a couple dozen of their favorite fans. good looking group, huh. they have been waiting here probably about an hour. you know what happens when the team arrives, they come past the fence, all the way down the parking lot down here behind the fence, and that's when they pick up their cars. when they leave the gate right here that's the best chance the fans have to get up close and personal with their favorite players. so the moral, the extended family, adults and still decked out in their 49er gear from head to toe, hoping to catch a glimpse of the players or chat with them. they already have several of the players autographs transferred to tattoos on his arm. coach harbaugh, just to name a few

meteorologist brian hackney has the results of the pretty bleak first snow survey. brian. >> bleak and weather seem to be going together these days and that is true as regards the snow survey. first time of the winter season they went out and had a look just south of lake tahoe. a lot of bare patches on the ground and in fact it was hard to find a place to actually measure the snow. mostly electronic and water content readings showed it's just 20% of average. it's the lowest on record. actually it ties january 2012 as being the lowest on record at this point in the season. and at this rated it estimates it will only be able to deliver 5% of the water that is requested by 29 public agencies if things continue to go as it looks right now which is not good. it's not a surprise that this is all in lockstep with the amount of rain we have gotten back in the bay area, which shows totals to be about a fifth of average and, you know, the rain translates to the snow up top and so there's no big discrepancy there. so, low rainfall, low snow, and yet maybe a few little chinks

brian hackney has more from the weather center. >> lexington is interesting because they drowned two old towns, the towns of alma and lexington in 1952 to build that reservoir because they needed water for orchards in santa clara county and when the water gets low enough, some of the foundations from those old ghost towns actually reappear and unfortunately, that may be true this year especially with numbers like this. as we point out, san francisco on average gets about 22.25" of rain. during a calendar year 2013, it's the least we have had since 1849. the fiscal year of rain begins back on july 1st. so at this point in the rain season, which again we define as being from the beginning of july, we're only at 23% of average in san francisco. that is the fourth driest ever. in terms of prospects for us getting any more rain, there aren't many. we'll cover it though when we do the forecast in a few minutes. >> thank you. >>> a high-flying way to ring in the new year. >> the watershed as we end marijuana prohibition. >> the long lines to get a legal buzz in colorado. >> and a hack attac
