cnn's hadas gold is in jerusalem for us. what is the first vote of this process?ere in jerusalem. this is another road test outside the israeli supreme court. tens of thousands of israelis have been coming to protest this overhaul legislation set to be voted on tomorrow. if this legislation pass, it will be the first portion of this judicial overhaul package that netanyahu's government is trying to put through. in addition to the protests here, there's actually a tent city that has popped up just below parliament where protesters say they'll be camping out there for as long as necessary until this overall is over. on the other side, there are protests in tel aviv tonight, protests in favor of the overhaul. they call this judicial reform. they say this is what they voted for when they voted this government into power. as you noted, this legislation would strip their ability to declare government actions unreasonable. that's important because the supreme court is the only check on government power in israel. it's a parliamentary system, so whatever party is in power

cnn's hadas gold is in jerusalem for us. so what is the process?nd across the country both for and against this judicial overall legislation. debate in parliament has already started. this is a marathon 26-hour long session expected. the votes are expected to take place tomorrow. and if this passes, this will be the first part of the legislation of this overall package that the netanyahu is trying to get through. it will have to face some legal challenges, ironically up to the supreme court and this would drastically change the supreme court but this is very significant. it would be the first part passing it. today there have been lots of protests, protesters set up a tent city here. they say they're going to stay there until the overall legislation is over the table. now there are those who are in favor of this who say that the judiciary is in desperate need of reform, that they have too much power. they took to the streets in tel aviv today to encourage the government to keep going. as we speak, there are plenty of discussions ongoing, the israel

hadas, this is part of a spike in violence we've seen in recent weeks really.onder, what evidence has the israeli government presented as to what is behind these particular attacks? >> reporter: well really this has been going on now for a year and a half, these regular israeli military raids into various cities in the occupied west bank. this is in response, they say, to a wave of palestinian attacks targeting israelis. but jenin in particular has been a hot spot of militant activity and of some of these new militant groups that sort of have some varying ties to the more established ones, like hamas and islamic jihad. what we saw overnight, this was by far the largest israeli military operation in the occupied west bank period since 2002. so, we're talking about the days of the second intifada, when israeli tanks were rolling through the streets of palestinian cities in the west bank. there were hundreds if not up to 1,000 israeli forces operating in jenin. they utilized air strikes from drones, and there were bulldozers ripping up the streets of jenin. there

cnn's hadas gold is joining us live from jerusalem.ke place. what is the latest? >> reporter: yeah, a lot going on here. normally the prime minister implanted with a pacemaker is secondary to what is happening at the parliament. the debate has started on the legislation about whether the supreme court will be able to declare government actions unreasonable. keep in mind, the way israeli politicals work out, supreme court is the only check on the power of executive and of the legislative because the party, the biggest party that has the coalition is also the party in power and that is why you see what is ibehind me here. we're just under the israeli parliament and the supreme court and it is here that protests have set up a tent city. there is everything from the tents, but also food stations, water stations and the protesters here say that they're setting it up this way because they plan to stay here for as long as necessary until this legislation and until this judicial overhaul is off the table. we've seen protests for months but the
