our anita oh is live at hahnemann university hospital in center city where they are treated right now, anita. >> reporter: brooke, that 16 year-old boy is fighting for his life here at hahnemann university hospital and another is suffering there a broken leg after a speeding driver ran them down earlier this morning and never stopped. police believe that they now have that driver in custody. as ambulances rush to help two teenage boys hit by a car police say driver of the red 2002 lexus sped off, too. >> the impact was so severe it caused the front tire of the bicycle to be torn from the bicycle and that front tire then landed about 50 feet north, of where the point of impact occurred. >> reporter: police say around 2:00 friday morning group of teenage boys were riding their bike on the 600 block of north broad street near wallace street when a driver crash into two boys riding the same bike. >> they found two, 16 year-old boys, laying on broad street, in the 600 block. one was suffering from a broken leg, the other was bleeding heavily from the head. >> reporter: instead of stopping

family and friends who showed up to hahnemann university hospital were too emotional to talk. police say exactly what happened is still under investigation. >> at this point in time, the investigators are going to try and ascertain how this incident actually took place, how this happened, how this 4-year-old was shot, in terms of the weapon that was used and ascertain how many individuals were in the house at the time this incident occurred. >> reporter: there is still a lot of uncertainty. but we do know the shooting happened before 12:30 p.m. inside a home in the 1800 block of north 20th street in philadelphia. we also know, at the time of that shooting, the victim's 25-year-old mother and 3-year-old sister were at home. one person describes the traumatic scene of seeing the frantic mother rush out of the house clinging to her 4-year-old daughter, who had just been shot. >> i told her, what happened? she goes, she got shot. the kids were playing upstairs. and next thing you know, she said she found her baby laying on the floor like that and ran outside. >> reporter: witnesse

and medics returned the four year old shot in the right eye to hahnemann university hospital. she died just before 1:00 p.m. >> she pronounced at 12:58. >> philadelphia police lieutenant john stanford says crime scene detectives have a long road ahead of them. >> but detective are still arriving to the scene, so it is very early in the process. >> but, he says it, appears the young girl was shot inside, and then brought out front by her frantic mother, also, inside that home, during the shooting, the victim's three year old sister. >> haven't ruled out anything, i don't know how many times we can reiterate this. we know we have a four year old that's dead. and again, that's something that tugs at your heart when you do this. >> she was beautiful bright little girl. every time you see her, always had a smile on her face. >> neighbors also dealing with this sudden lost, remembering the happier times with the young victim during a situation, so very sad. >> she put the joy in everybody's hearts. if you were down, she would come over with a smile, then your day is right. >> now on
