in the lower haight, we worked with valley and the lower haight association and northern station to try and have stay away orders enforced. stay away order is a condition that a judge sets when someone is convicted of a crime. part of their sentence and part of their condition of probation is they have to stay away from a certain area and there's a designated area from the intersection of you know blank and blank. it may be thousand feet or the entire district. may be the entire city. we haven't been that lucky so far but we try. and if that person is seen within that area, they violated a condition of their probation and they are supposed to go back to court and judge is supposed to say, you violated our probation you have to serve out the sentence whatever that was. it wasn't happening. people would be picked up for violations of stay away orders and the judges were not enforcing their own stay a an order. we worked out a plan with the neighborhood groups where when someone is picked up on a violation of a stay away order the neighborhood group would get together and write letters to

the cole street clinic is a youth clinic in the heart of the haight ashbury and they target youth. tom woodell takes care of many of the central city residents and they have great expertise in providing services for many of the homeless. potrero hill and southeast health centers are health centers in those particular communities that are family health centers, so they provide health care to patients across the age span. . >> many of our clients are working poor. they pay their taxes. they may run into a rough patch now and then and what we're able to provide is a bridge towards getting them back on their feet. the center averages about 14,000 visits a year in the health clinic alone. one of the areas that we specialize in is family medicine, but the additional focus of that is is to provide care to women and children. women find out they're pregnant, we talk to them about the importance of getting good prenatal care which takes many visits. we initially will see them for their full physical to determine their base line health, and then enroll them in prenatal care which occurs over

i live in the haight asbury district and am a member of the civil service commission, an attorney, and friend of carol kingsley. i urge you to appoint her to the commission. her professional skills and integrity will be a commitment to the public good,ép and public service. she and i met through the woman lawyer's alliance, an organization created to provide free legal services and resources to the community. both of us, along with many other bay area alumni are -- have created a sisterhood. we are now judges, business owners, professors, and community activists. while the alliance is no longer in existance, the legacy lives on. the alliance was responsible for establishing 3.15 of the san francisco code, which created the child care fund to increase the availability of child care for low and moderate-income households. the woman lawyer's alliance spearheaded two reading rooms at the hall of justice and superior court to serve criminal defendants and parties to action, so this is something as lawyers we wanted to serve working families, and also the promotion of women of color to the b

i wanted to add in terms of this stay away order project or what hayes valand he lower haight worked on is they had the da's office at their meetings as they have been work on the issue to help deal with the particular situations. so if your da representative is not there ethyl can tell you. okay. so, i would talk to the da because they were instrumental. one other thing about the stay away orders, when they are cest up they can be as specific or general as needs be. if somebody lives very close to where the stay away order is and the stay away order is where he or she was doing business, there can be exceptions and conditions in this that say that this person can go to and from their house. from the bus stop to their house they can't be on the corner of 16th and mission and loitering for the purpose of selling drugs or committing what their crime was but can walk through it to go home. they can take a bus from there if they can't find a place to take a bus. it can be spelled out that specifically so as not to restrict somebody from going to and from their home. >> any other question
