((jeremy aguero)) last year, ride-hailing companies uber and lyft spent a lot of time and money to get their operations legalized in the las vegas market. the taxicab industry opposed those efforts every step of the way, and now we're starting to see why. after just a few months of operation, uber and lyft are already disrupting the $425-million-a- year cab industry. last year, the number of annual taxi trips in clark county was well on its way to a record of 28 million. uber and lyft started operating setting a record, annual taxi trips plummeted by 376,000 over the final three months of the year. this is hardly unique to las vegas. cities around the world have reported similar drops in cab trips after uber and other ride-hailing companies came to town, and one company in san francisco is declaring bankruptcy in part because of the new competition. interestingly, cab traffic at mccarran international airport has so far been immune, and trips to and from the airport climbed through the end of the year. however, this growth could be short-lived since uber didn't start operating at mccar
