the stone-wall riots are credited with igniting the lgbtq movement in san francisco and supervisor hainey will back me up, we know the queer movement started a few blocks from this building, when it was a ride if the tenderloin. this has chosen as a theme generations of resistance which i love. the theme is an important remindedder that the legal and cultural progress has been hard fought generations in the making and still far from finished. the historic investment in housing for transpeople in this year's budget is happening because generations of trans women like miss major and jenetta johnson would not back down, not at the cafetaria, not at the stone-wall in and not know. the progress they have made to new hiv infections is the legacy of generations. long-term survivors like cleve jones and harry bro who i honoured two weeks ago here and so many activists who didn't make it. they and their caregivers demanded that the politicians acknowledge and respond to the plague that the pharmaceutical companies make their live-saving medications broadly available and that governments across the

my staff was given a copy and i don't know if supervisor hainey has one. i have what was given to me a couple of hours ago. we are all acutely aware of this remarkable phenomenon, which is the city is a wash in money. you can't drive around our streets. rents are through the roof and yet, across the archipelogo, there's an increase number of vacancies throughout the city. so it really is a conundrum and i think there is a number of reason and they are different reasons ranging from landlords with unrealistic expectations. there are seven different businesses burned out of existence to changing behaviours to folks in the age of online shopping and what i call the culture of convenience, where i'm not picking on him. one of my nearby neighbours has his laundry picked up and delivered to his house and has potato and everything delivered to. and we're all dealing with this. i do want to say that the permitting issue is definitely a part of the problem. and a lot of that, actually, is how long it takes -- and i know because me and my staff walk shoddy who was o

as supervisor's hainey and marrs stated, san francisco is greatly underfunded. all parties need to work together, lobbying state to alter the funding formula so that it fits community college needs. in the meantime, i urge city college, city hall to find ways to augment funding to the college, be it through greater pass-throughs of proposition w, getting monies from funds or finding other means community is the middle name of city college and turning the college towards a junior college model does not meet the money educational needs of san francisco's diverse populous. free city college is amazing but only covers tuition. for many students who are pushed to attend full-time, they have to give up jobs and take on loans that leave them with life-emcome berrin berring debt. this means losses of entire programmes down the road. it does not make sense to drop the classroom portion now. the administration is proposing to demolish the building that music is in now and have those classes in portable classrooms. if you care about the arts, this does not make sense. than
