i'm hakim dermish.e a great day. >> you too. >> we are going to be back in 15 minutes for the morning's top stories and of course your sunday forecast. but for now, here's jim hanley. >> good morning, everyone. i'm jim hanley. welcome to reporter's notebook. in the district today, a lot of news coming out. we have two formal federal charges, felony charges against d.c. councilmember harry thomas jr., one for filing false tax returns, the other misuse of more than $300,000 in city funds. what does this mean for ward 5? what does this mean for other investigations involving city leaders? >> it looks like there's going to be jail time, which opens up a spot on district council. there will have to be a special election. someone will come in and fill his spot. it's ironic these charges first came to light by his republican opponent in the last election had questions about this charity that harry thomas was running and was wondering how he was using those funds and gradually the story developed from there. it

i'm hakim dermish. have a great day. >> the chances of seeing your film take off in hollywood, they're slim. but one local woman is going where no one has gone before, strictly to film fans to make her movie. jessica, good morning to you. glad to have you join us. >> thanks for having me. >> you're from the d.c. area but you spent many years out in los angeles and you realized the challenges of making a film. this really inspired you to do your own thing. >> absolutely. i started out work in the media conglomerate system in studios. and i learned if you wanted to make original film not based on a comic book or toy you had to do something else. that's what we started to do. >> and you turned to film fans. tell me a little bit about this concept. you're truly going to the people that enjoy film to make this movie. >> absolutely. art is eternal funded entirely by fans by micro donation, so by people giving $1 or $100 and joining the community what we can do is prevent special interests and film from saying
