this was south of half moon bay kind of in between half moon bay and pescadero. icers from the substation out at half moon bay did search for the animal, but they're unable to find the mountain lion. the attack happened around seven o'clock last night. as a family was walking or hiking along this creek road, nine miles south of half moon bay. investigators say the animal attack the child and inflicted puncture wounds on that child. the child was rushed to an area trauma center. we're trying to get an updated condition. as i said deputies did search for the mountain lion, but they did not find the cat. the state department of fish and wildlife is not now going to spearhead the investigation moving forward. we're trying to get more information about that, as well as an update on the child's condition. we're told he or she will survive this attack, but we don't know much more than that, beyond puncture wounds will try to get more information for you coming up in the next hour. we're live outside sheriff's headquarters here in redwood city. jesse gary ktvu, fox two ne

this was in the hills above half moon bay. tonight, the boy is back home from the hospital, and the hunt for that mountain lion continues. we'll show you now the little boy. here he is, 5-year-old jack. he and his family were on a private trail off of highway one when the attack happened. jack got a little ahead of the rest of the group, and he walked right into three mountain lions, a mom and two younger cubs. that's when one of the younger cats attacked. the bay area puma project gave us this video telling us it shows the same family of mountain lions that jack encountered. you can see the three right there. jack does have some scratches and a broken bone near his eye. >> his mom susie was able to run up. the mountain lion still had ahold of jack, and she was able to scare the animal off. i think they're very focused on jack's recovery. just feeling really thankful that it could have been so much worse than it was. >> it could have been much worse. joining us now is captain patrick foye with the california department of fish
