joining us now to discuss this is the mayor of halfmoon bay, deborah penrose. rose. and, deborah, thanks for coming on today. you're welcome. >> so happy to be here. well this is different. >> i mean, it is a first, i think. but halfmoon bay is current minimum wage, i think is already 1645 and it goes up in january to 17. right. so it's on the high side, but this proposal is for $20 an hour. >> that's right. in fact, it was back in 2020 that we increased our living wage ahead of most of the other cities in the county. we are now asking for $20 an hour. so where are we at this proposal? >> what is required? what are the steps before it takes effect and when would it take effect? >> well, it will take effect sometime in early 2024. we to have the ordinance written by staff. the council decided to go for it. the ordinance needs to be written and then we need to have a public hearings. and that's a two step process where do you expect that to be completed? oh, probably no later than march. and that would be for businesses that have more than 25 employees is in 2024 and 2

the farm worker accused of the deadly halfmoon bay shootings returned to court today. he returns to court today for a preliminary hearing. 66 year old chen li zhao pled not guilty back in february on charges including seven counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. he faces the possibility of life without parole or the death penalty if convicted. vallejo's mare island drawbridge is not working correctly, and that means it is going to need to be closed so crews can fix it. the bridge over the napa river connects vallejo and the old navy shipyard. it's supposed to go up to a height of 90ft, but the city says it's stopping short at just about 74ft. and that could cause a problem for some boats. the bridge will be closed tomorrow between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to make the repairs. a warning this morning about big waves along the california coast . the national weather service issued an alert about an increased risk of large waves today for the entire bay area coastline on northwest, facing beaches are most at risk as swells move through the coastal waters. safety offi
