once again live from the middle of the praet in paris, nbc news chief white house correspondent halle jacksonod to talk to you once again. set the scene for us. what's the atmosphere like on the ground? how is president trump being received? sort of all that's been going on in the last day or so. >> security is tight. >> yeah. i think it was amman that just said that security is tight. it is. i just want to show you here for a second if we can what's behind us. you just probably saw the last couple of tanks and trucks clear out. we've been watching the parade through with president trump and president macron now standing to watch the end of the parade. we had a couple of fly-overs from thunderbirds, f-22s, other military planes. a lot of activity here. certainly a little bit shaky on the camera, because there's a lot of people, a lot of media on the platform where we are. as you might imagine, there is very high interest in this given that this is a crucial day for france. you can see some of the tanks now coming back around behind me, and i'm looking, and i'm seeing the first lady meliania t

if you take his comments to halle jackson. it would suggest he is not going to. and i have real questions about whether or not we're going to actually know what is said during that meeting. we do expect him to raise the issue of syria. he effectively did that today. ukraine as well. but will he press him on the key new? you have democrats and republicans urging him to do exactly that. and ari we know there will be six who people in the room. he secretary of state rex tillerson. sergey lavrov. and three translatesers. it's a very small group of people who know what is actually said. and of course the key question will be how tough is he with putin? >> jonathan what will we learn from a meeting like this typically according to protocols. >> normally countries would release a readout of the meeting some within an hour a couple hours of conclusion. the trump white house has been slower than the obama white house was in giving us that -- giving that information to the press. sometimes it wouldn't even come out until the next day. but this is the event that has been mo

joining us live now from paris, northbound news chief white house correspondent halle jackson. good to have you with us. we've been talking a lot about this trip anticipation. president trump extremely unpopular at the moment in jurp and in france. nbc news has learned of various protests and marches that are planned during his visit. what's the atmosphere like now on the ground with his arrival? >> i would say we just saw the president come in not long ago, right? this is sort of the beginning, the key up, to what will ultimately be a very short trip. you sort of ran through the highlights there. i think most notably you're going to see that press conference that's set to happen later today. you're going to see dinner actually up just behind me here over at the eiffel tower. the president, the first lady along with president macron and his wife. then tomorrow, of course, is that military parade essentially. that is going to be a mix of not just french troops but u.s. military troops as well. as you talked about, 100 years since the first american troops arrived on french soil.
