just heard hallie say he may bring those women out again. in the audience bringing accusers into the spin room where you are. and what do you think the clinton campaign will say about the way she responded to that line of attack? >> well, kate, first of all, just two characterize her thinking going into this debate, secretary clinton, i was told, was bracing for an all-out attack and that's essentially what she got. there was a lot of speculation she might be thrown off of her game. instead the two candidates had that vigorous back and forth that andrea just mapped out on a whole host of different issues. but you're right. that moment when donald trump raised bill clinton's accusers, fact they were there, in the audience, was a stunning moment. the campaign saying that the way she responded was steady. the fact she essentially stood up and say i got some of the facts wrong and proceeded to quote michelle obama who said when they go low, we go high and pivoted back to her own record so the campaign spinning that as a successful moment. i will

let's pick up where hallie jackson left off. this idea that one of mike pence's primary responsibilities tonight is going to essentially be to clean up some of the mess donald trump has made over the past two weeks. do you see that as being one of his -- >> his primary responsibility tonight is to draw that contrast, both in terms of him and tim kaine and then donald trump and hillary clinton. when it comes to kaine, both governors. when tim kaine was governor here in virginia, taxes went up, unemployment went up 7.3%. in indiana, unemployment went down, taxes went down. they have a very different record as it comes to being governors. donald trump and hillary clinton, i think the strength or the, what they perceive as strength is their experience in washington. hillary clinton and tim kaine, they talk about their years of experience. i think if you want years of experience in washington, you want the status quo, the establishment, we need to make that contrast. that's your team. if you want change and you want a different direc

i call him puny pence. >> what is happening with the ticket right now, hallie?i think there is some question marks about that. when you saw pence come out yesterday, and deliver that statement that he did not -- could not defend those remarks, did not condone them and would be watching at the debate, i think that is significant. it is also significant there is a report out and i believe the wall street journal that pence assured donors at a fund-raiser overnight he was standing by trump, at least for now, but i think that you haven't seen mike pence publicly since this really started to break. he came out late friday afternoon, right as this was starting to bubble, and reiterated his support for trump. what we saw on saturday was him canceling that appearance in wisconsin, that festival he had been set to go to, that paul ryan essentially disinvited trump from. at this point, you got to wonder how that relationship is working given you are seeing so many elected officials come out and saying, hey, if i don't vote for donald trump and won't vote for hill kri clin
