i actually just saw him halloween. he told me he would be scheduling an appointment and he would be wearing the appropriate clothes to come to city hall to meet with me because he was studying business at santa monica college in los angeles. and what this situation suggests to me is that as hard as we all work to make sure that there are great programs in the city, as hard as we work to make sure that kids like ikenna have opportunities, there are other kids that are being neglected. there are other kids that need those same opportunities. there are other kids who are not growing up in an environment where they're learning what it means to be compassionate towards other people. there are other kids that, sadly, are capable of killing kid like ikenna. and we just have a lot of work to do. i'm sad that the circumstances in this case have happened in this way, and i just wanted to express that this makes me want to work harder and fight harder now more than ever because of this particular loss. this is a great human being
