anne arundel fire officials are evaluating the hampton inn. on ritchie highway, they're suffering water damage due to a water main break. it burst around 3:45 and we're told contractors are on the way to the scene to make repairs. police in baltimore city are investigating an overnight armed robbery on fleetwood ave. a 23-year-old man was approached by two on known suspects. they took the victims' property and shot him twice before fleeing the scene. the man was taken to an area hospital for treatment but is expected to be ok. carbon monoxide poisoning sending two of the hospital. one woman and one girl taken to the university of maryland medical center precautionary treatment. they discovered a malfunctioning waler on birch avenue in dundalk. a third person in the home refused treatment. meteorologist john collins says it is certainly did time of year for that. >> boilers and that in demand. we have more wintry weather than we have been dealing with recently. some light snowfall amounts tangling things up traffic-wise thursday and friday. now

the county sheriff office said he was walking in the area of hampton road in edgewood around 6:30 thursday night and he was originally taken to shock trauma in critical condition. it appears he was not in a crosswalk at the time. the 32-year-old driver remained at the scene. we are told no charges have been filed. a huge surprise for court in today's opening statements in the trial of michael johnson. he's accused of murdering a north carolina teen felicia barnes. plans were revealed to call a surprise witness an acquaintance of michael johnson. prosecutor say he will testify he saw felicia's body on a bed in johnson's department the day she disappeared. this is the first time any such evidence has been mentioned. defense lawyers call the witness a jailhouse snitch who can't be believed. we will have the latest developments at 11 news at 5:00. defense attorneys for john leopold will make a motion for acquittal today. prosecutors rested their case after a former member of the detail testified he took his concerns to superiors but nothing was ever addressed. to read the latest on the leopold

let's check in with hampton pearson. he joins us live with more on that and the rest of the day's business headlines. good morning. >> how you doing, keith? well, first we're going to start with right now we've got a mixed bag on wall street. apple stocks dragging down the nasdaq after disappointing the earnings report late yesterday. checking the major averages this hour, the dow up 92 points, the nasdaq down a point. the s&p up six. apple stock dropped 11% at the opening to $455 a share. late yesterday, the company predicted sales would grow just 7% in the current quarter. that's a big decline from a company that has seen big growth rates routinely as high as 50% on several occasions. apple is the biggest component of the tech heavy nasdaq index. a strong quarter with growth and profit, it jumped to 144 a share. mr. softy, microsoft, reports earnings later today after the markets close. and as we mentioned at the top, a better than expected labor market is keeping the blue chip stocks in green today. the number of work

reportedly over in charlottesville and this storm system spinning down here will produce snow for hampton roads, very heavy rain feeding in, briefly very heavy snow down there, although we're thinking a lot of that will melt in that region because temperatures are still pretty warm. in terms of advisories the only one really left in our region, st. mary's county, winter storm warnings down through central virginia into the northern neck, a few lingering on the eastern snow. for the rest of the metro area we are in the clear and i do not anticipate problems in the morning. 41 degrees in the district, still pretty mild, 40 degrees in annapolis. as the moisture and clouds clear out and we start thinning out the color, temperatures will drop down to about 30 degrees. here's the area of low pressure that produced it all, snow just to our south. all of it pulls out, weak front slipping through during the day tomorrow. bottom line it's dry, sunny, but as high pressure builds in and our storm departs we get a lot of wind out of that and those winds out of the northwest at 15 to 25 may make it fee

it looks like a little snow towards hamptons area and virginia beach. yesterday obviously the cold was the big, huge story. the coldest spot out there, burlington, vermont, had a high temperature of 1 degree yesterday. what is interesting, the lakes are not frozen in northern new england. so we had these amazing pictures, this video coming from wcax-tv. this is lake champlain. huge lakes in northern portions of vermont. this is what we call steam fog. the cold air going over the relatively warm water. what are we dealing with this morning? once again, extremely cold. temperatures in the negative numbers. almost all of new england. we're at minus 34 in international falls. wind chills are brutal from chicago to detroit. this is going to continue for another couple days. what's going to happen next is this next storm on the way is going it run into the cold air and looks like snow for a lot of areas. not today. but as we go into friday, i'll have details on that coming up. >> all right. thanks much so, bill. straight ahead, north korea warns that a new te

the stabbing happened last nights at a hampton inn in littleton, new hampshire. this is near the vermont border. when police arrived, they found 70-year-old katherine houghton in the lobby. she had been stabbed multiple times. at the scene officers arrested another hotel guest, a 37-year-old man charged with second-degree murder. you see him here. detectives do not believe the two knew each other. houghton, who went by the name kitty, had traveled to new hampshire for meetings. she was a trustee at a small private school. >> from her work in the peace corps to our countless hours of volunteer service, she touched many through her words, her actions and her deeds. >> a motive for the crime is not yet known. >>> a frightening start to the day in the east bay after a gunman shot and killed a man at a gas station in front of several people, and then that gunman escaped. shooting unfolded just after 9:00 this morning south of highway 4. at one point, a man claiming to be the victim's father confronted police, demanding information, saying his son was just 20 years old
