it revolved around john henson and doug hampton.'s basically a suburb of las vegas on the west side. in november, 2007, their very nice home was burglarized. in the aftermath, the hamptons moved in with their very dear friends, the enson family. doug was a top senate aide, cindy hampton did bookkeeping for the campaign organizations. they were not only both employed by john enson, they took vacations together, they spent a lot of time together. and after the hamptons home was burglarized, they needed a place to stay and they stayed with their friends, the ensons. and that apparently seems to be where the trouble began. the break-in happened november 2007. the following month, doug hampton came across text messages on his phone came to the conclusion that his wife and the senator were having an affair. needless to say, both families sat down together. after the new year, the affair kept going. which is amazing because doug hampton was working every day very closely with john henson. they went on a trip to iraq in 2008. while they wer

ana cabrera is in east hampton, long island. we have ivan cabrera standing by in the cnn severe weather center with the detailed forecast. i want to go now to miguel marquez. so miguel you have the governor of new york, andrew cuomo, he's saying he's considering a travel ban here. how else is the city preparing? >> reporter: well the city is preparing by loading up on lots of salt and lots of plows. we're in one of those areas here in lower manhattan. i want to give you a little tour of where we are right now. this is the bike path on lower manhattan. down that way we should be able to see downtown. it is complete whiteout right now. this storm is on. the last 20, 30 minutes or so it's come on strong. if you look up this way, see the west side highway here. the traffic is still heavy. people getting out of town coming downtown. we're seeing a few runners and bikers on this trail still. that won't be the case. if we get that 3 feet of snow it will be up to right here on me on this trail. that giant building there, that is filled

in other parts, at west hampton, we understand there were 60-mile-per-hour gusts. now, imagine being in the lighthouse of montauk when those 50-mile-per-hour wind gusts are roaring in the middle of the night, around 2:00 in the morning. it's pitch black and all you can hear is the fury outside. we talked with the caretaker here at the montauk lighthouse who described it as just terrifying. listen. >> i was here during sandy, which was quite terrifying itself. but being in the cold is much worse. you're really isolated with the snow. it's much more terrifying. i had a dog at that time who kept me company. so i miss the dog. but to be here alone is a little scary. >> and being by yourself what was going through your mind? >> i was praying i didn't get sick or the roof didn't blow off. what was i going to do? because you know no one is coming to get you. you're at the end of the line here. no one is coming to save you. >> so fortunately, no damage there at the lighthouse. she did describe grabbing up some items, going to the lowest point in the house just in case beca
