hank silverberg joins us live from the fairfax county courthouse with some reaction from today's news. >> reporter: we are talking about john geer who was shot by police in 2013 during a standoff. in that statement released today some new information that he was apparently shot when he briefly lowered his arms during negotiations with police. we now know the name of the officer who shot him. >> it changes nothing. we're at the point we should have been 17 months ago. >> reporter: that's mike curtis from the watchdog group called justice for john geer. he says the one page statement from fairfax county police chief roessler did not say much. >> it said they produced the gun and they never said anything about that before then, before now. >> reporter: the police officer who pulled the trigger is adam torres, an eight year veteran of the force who has been on administrative duty since the shooting. the statement said police found eight guns inside geer's house including one on a nearby landing after geer was shot with one bullet as he stand with his hands up in the doorway. fairfax count
