commissioner hardeman? >> yeah, very briefly. you don't want to -- i mean, everybody -- hundreds of folks spoke yesterday on tv and radio about mayor lee, but the one thing i didn't hear was ferocious loyalty. when this commission had the finger pointed out it, rightfully so, by all unions, the variety of 798 and the rest of the ethnic unions, everybody was pointing the finger at us, and the chief. when mayor lee called us into his office, and there was a number of meetings -- like i said publicly, he blamed us, chief, and he blamed this commission, and he called us back. how's it going? how's the chief? how's he doing? is there something that needs to be fixed so we brought up all these things, and so did the chief. but the one thing he did was he never publicly blamed us. privately, he chiued us oewed . there was very lengthy meeting, telling us what we needed to keep the performance, but what we needed, he just gave us, and the board of supervisors -- so that's the one thing i would say. this man was the most loyal person you

commissioner hardeman. you had something -- >> i wanted to say congratulations to all those at 798 and others who worked on fund-raisers and other things for the toy program. i was able to attend one and it was well done. very nice, very wonderful that firefighters have taken this upon themselves to -- so the children receive at least some toys and -- they deserve a pat on the back. >> thank you. commissioner veronese. >> i wanted to thank the fire stations for welcoming me to their stations on christmas day. i had the pleasure of bringing my son agustus who loves the fire department. what 8-year-old doesn't, but i was welcomed into the fire stations and i want to thank the chief and each of the members of the fire stations and deputy chief burke who was at one of the stations who i see here. we got to spend a couple hours with the stations on christmas day, brought them some treats. and got to know some of their stories. i appreciate -- i hope to make that an annual tradition because i know my grandfather

commissioner hardeman. >> thank you, mr. president. yeah, i'd like to call you tony, but i think mr. boone. >> tony's fine. mr. boone is my dad. >> any way, good comments by fellow commissioners, but my concern is these wildfires, and particularly, like the fire up in the north bay, which is not just vegetation burning. >> correct. >> which you understand and everybody involved in firefighting understands what you're dealing with. >> right. >> as far as chemicals and stu stuff. but what happened in the north bay is every imaginable type of carcinogenic burning in houses and structures and businesses that really exposed -- exposed a lot of firefighters to unusual chemicals that they're not normally expected to have on a wildfire. they're trained to -- like, we only have 10% of the department -- less than that -- trained. i would hope that that number would increase because with the amount of wild fires, particularly down in southern california now. i don't know how many the chief has decided to send down there, but i know we've sent som

>> commissioner hardeman? >> yes, mr. presidency, and hopefully, mr. president, again. yeah, i think in these real sad times, it's nice to have a continuity with a temporary mayor coming in, with him having to work with a president that he's very familiar with, and nothing to -- no significant changes in this commission i think makes it easier on the new mayor. and like commissioner alioto veronese said, we are all mayoral appointments. so in that light, in being a mayoral appointment for many years, i always want to know the mayor's agenda and what he thinks. so i think this mayor will carr carry on the legacy of ed lee, and i think you as president will make it easy for him to carry on mayor ed lee's agenda, which is moving the city forward, treating this fire department fantastic. the last few years with mayor lee were just so spectacular with this department, and you as a leader, and commissioner covington before you, and we've been very, very successful. and so i was very happy to support your nomination for president. >> thank you, commissioner hardeman. vice pres

corso. >> thank you, commissioner hardeman. vice president nakajo. >> thank you, president cleaveland. good evening, director corso. >> good evening. >> on page four, i know we have this calendar of submittals. on june the 1st, we submit to the mayor's budget -- or the mayor's budget is submitted to the board of supervisors. so with this change as of late last night with a new mayor of san francisco for this period of time between now and june, i was curious as to how this is -- or does it affect our budget process departmentally or do we adhere to these timelines and -- go ahead, mr. corso. >> so the timelines themselves are fixed. i know the june 1st 1 fixed in the charter, so there's no real flexib flexiblity there. for department submissions, everything is consistent there. i'm sure there'll be numerous discussions. even though we submit in february , we're still in conversation with the mayor kazz office until their submittal, so any changing priorities, for example, at the mayor's office will be dealt request in the next
