the kids expect to have to work really hard. in the teaching and learning was not about critical thinking in any way shape or form. i haven't had enough time to travel to see internationally. i know the international data fairly well. our best kids are not competitive with many places around the world. i think this is a pretty serious crisis that this country is facing in terms of the quality of the education k-12 that we are offering kids. in terms of the rest, has really been to many schools around the country and district education suffers from many of the same problems. new york is better than many urban areas, as bad as it is. you still have some pockets of learning going on. it's pretty grim, meaning in new york city i would say 90% of the schools do not work at the most basic levels. we are spending $31 billion a year, 91% of our schools are not teaching kids to reading count. the 10% are, are mainly in affluent neighborhoods. that's the educational segregation i was talking about earlier which is a profound problem that
