the players just wrapped up at harding park. dennis o'donnell is there. >> reporter: the pga championship, the first major of the year is round 1 in the books at harding park. they are bracing for a lot of cold and fog but the sun came in and out all day. tiger went out in the morning and he sinks and bombs this one with a 33 foot are for the second birdie of the day and he was not bad with the wedges either. he was playing with justin thomas and rory mcelroy and better than both of them with 2 under 68 and then he leaned on his driver and thrust to the head off and he gained 50 pounds recently which could not of helped. you got a new driver and hammered it 320 yards and birdied that whole. and then jason took advantage of less wind in the morning and was firing darts at the greens and he birdied the 9th to finish his round with the 5 under 65 and he is tied for the lead with brandon todd and tigers 3 back. >> i felt like if i shut something in the red i would be right there because it will be tough this afternoon for the guys a

no spectators were allowed inside harding park. a good look at your second round leader. don lee shot a 5 under 65, the first chinese player to lead any round of any major. no bogies. i don't know anybody in their office pool that had lee winning this thing. he'll play in the final group with this fella. he had a 64, the low round of the day for tiger. he couldn't get anything going. not at all. he couldn't get out of his own way. dubbed the tee shot there. and he just could not get his putter to work. just not working the day before, but not today. tiger shot a 2 over 72. he was even for the tournament and was only one shot above the cut line. so let's recap. he holds a two-shot lead over six golfers including the two defending pga champen yoship game, brooks koepka. the lead was so good today, he even surprised himself. >> yeah, he didn't even see it that i could play like this. and especially, you know, like you said with no content. that's the kind of golf that they would apply. they would need to apply all guns blazing. when it comes off, it's really good. >> i have

that will be a challenge for the golfers at harding park, the ones that he off later in the day. those are the ones on top of the leaderboard, so they get an extra challenge there. the fog is not going to be a huge issue as we head into the weekend. we will start off with some of it each morning, but right around the bay and the coast. it is not going to spread far inland at all and cloud cover backs up quickly and should be off the coast for a little while each afternoon tomorrow, and again on sunday and that allows to be just to warm up to a greater extent. the early tee off times, going to have the course what it down a little bit which takes distance off their game, but later in the day the course dries out and is harder to get the ball to stick to the green. amateurs rising up into the upper 60s, that is not bad at all. temperatures start off tomorrow morning almost completely in the mid to upper 50s, the very warmest spot around 60 degrees. we warm up not as fast around the bay, but still not bad. upper 60s and low 70s. by lunch time with temperatures climbing into the uppe
