most of them are good, hardworking, decent, honest, principled people. the reality is there's a limit to number of people they can bring in. we have a right to say we want to bring people and based on their ability to contribute to the economy, to stay productive citizens and to uplift the nation as a whole. you think about our current system of chain migration. over the last ten years we've admitted about 10 million people through our chain migration system. to understand how many people that is, you're talking about every hour that's about the size of a high school auditorium. every day it's the size of a large high school. every week a small city. every month the medium to average size city. every year a very large city, a city the size of washington, d.c., or san francisco. every single you're just there chain migration. what is the effective out on taxpayers? what is the upper left effect of that on wage earners? >> tucker: and that's illegal. >> that's just folks coming in on green cards through chain migration. >> tucker: i always ask this questio

by last count, almost a million hardworking americans, over 970,000 hardworking americans have already gotten the good news, and there is more good news coming every day with more announcements today. it's exactly what republicans said would happen. it's happening for people who work at banks, who work at insurance companies, who work at airlines. it's happening for people who work at big companies like at&t and visa and comcast and happening for people who work at smaller companies like a winery in california and an aviation company in texas. these are businesses and people in communities who are important parts of their community doing important jobs. the employees work hard, and now they're getting a share of the relief that the republicans had predicted they would get all along. they're not just getting cash bonuses. there's a bank in massachusetts called the berkshire hills bank corps. they announced last week the people working there will be getting a $1,000 bonus and see the minimum wage raised to $15 an hour. more is being invested in employee development and training programs.

that law penalized hardworking americans twice, first by failing to create health insurance options to meet the needs of working families and imposing a fine on families who didn't want or couldn't afford the coverage. by zeroing out that unfair penalty, we repealed a core piece of obamacare and restored families flexibility to choose health insurance that works for them. the result of all of this is significant savings for middle-class american families. a typical family four earning a median family income will keep $2,000 more than they would have otherwise sent to the government and workers will see a difference in their paychecks as soon as february. less of their money will be deducted and sent to the i.r.s., more will be deposited in their own bank accounts. mr. president, the early impact of this tax reform legislation is quite clear. job creators and entrepreneurs are more optimistic. more than one million americans are already getting raises and bonuses and the groundwork is being laid for a more powerful, more competitive u.s. economy that attracts more investment and creates

and shore up pension plans for millions of hardworking middle-class americans who put money in every month, and because of the stock market crash and sometimes corporate misdeeds aren't getting what they put in for. these items are crucial to the middle class. take opioids, for example. 2016, a record 63,000 -- this is so sad -- 63,000 americans died of drug overdoses. two-thirds or more were opioid related. it's a full-fledged epidemic. it strikes the rich, the middle class, and the poor alike. it strikes urban america, suburban america, and rural america alike. i have had a father cry in my arms because his son had decided to turn himself around and signed up for a treatment program, but the line was so long because the funding is so scarce that the young man died of an overdose before he could enter treatment. the opioid crisis is stealing our youth. we've known about it for years. it's not new. it's heartbreaking about how much we know about it but how little we've done about it. the americans sent us here to do their business. let's make a real investment in this budget deal and

and more take-home pay for hardworking americans. i'm proud of the way that the tax reform will benefit america's farmers and ranchers. later today president trump is going to be speak at the conference. kentucky is home to a vibrant farming community. i heard family farmers loud and clear. they said, we need tax relief, and that's what congress delivered. thanks to our once in a generation tax reform law, it will be easier for farmers in kentucky and around the country to invest in new capital equipment and recover their costs. according to the farm bureau federation, 93% of u.s. farms filed taxes through the individual code. they will benefit from the major relief we secured for pass-through businesses. and especially important for farmers, this tax bill doubled the exemption from the death tax. it -- on the same dime. now this burden will fall on fewer american farmers and ranchers. thanks to the work of senator robert, senator hatch and many others, we passed a tax bill that the farm bureau federation and the kentucky farm bureau

president teamed up to take money out of washington's pocket and put it back in the pockets of hardworking americans who earned. but some of our democratic colleagues don't seem to feel that way. they all voted against a law that will raise take-home pay for american families who spent a decade spending not just to get ahead but to stay afloat. some scoffed at these bonuses pay raises and new benefits. my friends, the democratic leaders in the senate and house have used the word crumbs. one chairman said that she doesn't think a $1,000 bonus doesn't go very far for almost anyone. $1,000 doesn't go far for almost anyone. that might be true in new york or san francisco. it sure isn't true in kentucky. and i think taking that argument to most kitchen tables would get you laughed out of the room. of course immediate raises, bonuses, and worker benefits are far from the whole story. tax reform will also deliver direct relief to middle-class families across america by cutting their tax rates and doubling the standard deduction. a typical family of four earning a median income will get to keep mo

president, what about hardworking americans who need pensions? retirement is one of the things americans worry about most these days. for years teamsters and miners and carpenters paid into pension plans week after week, month after month, year after year. they took a little less salary in their negotiations because they wanted to know when it was time to retire they could retire with some degree of dignity. no one's going to get rich on these pensions, but at least they're there and provide a little bit of a nest egg for people in their golden years. they were told as they put the money in week after week, month after month, year after year, you may not become rich when you retire. you may not be able to buy luck reus -- luxuries but at least you'll have a life of dignity. now those pensions may be stolen from millions in america. these folks earned every penny of their pensions. are we going to shrug our shoulders, say we can't do that? most americans want us to do that. they don't want it to be an either/or situation. and here our colleagues w

we we have a responsibility to protect the pensions of these hardworking americans and keep the promises that were made to them. this is another crisis that cannot be kicked down the road. it has to be addressed now, and the continuing resolution that's going to come before us has not one word to say about that. and then we have a child care crisis in this country. millions of working families can't find quality, affordable child care. we have a student debt crisis in this country. 40 million people, many of them deeply in debt, unable to get on with their lives for the crime of having gone to college. that is a crisis that we have to deal with. we have an infrastructure crisis in this country all over america. roads, bridges, wait water plants are collapsing. how do we continue to ignore those crises? mr. president, at a time of massive income and wealth inequality, when the rich are getting richer and everybody else is getting poorer, our job here in congress is not just to give tax breaks to billionaires. our job is not just to try to throw 32 million americans off of the health insur

this is clearly an attack on freedoms and liberties of hardworking americans. we're in the business of doing no harm, that's what we should be. all this case aims to do is take away the rights of the ability of hardworking americans to have a strong voice in their workplace. that is just not right. next month the supreme court will hear the oral arguments in this case to determine whether fair share violates the first amendment rights of workers. when it comes to this case, a negative direction for our unions nationwide would take us in the wrong direction. across the country more than half of african-american workers and nearly 60% of latino workers are paid less than 15ds per hour -- $15 per hour. union jobs have historically been and continue to be a path to middle class for people of color, when often low-wage jobs . african-american union members today earn 14 2k7 more and latino workers earn 28.8% more than their nonunion counterparts. in some section, the difference is even greater. african-american women in unions earned an average of 21.9 an hour while
