elissa harrington is live near the scene for us. >> such a sad story. the driver, an 18-year-old woman from tracy, has been missing since saturday morning. divers and search teams have not opinion automobile been able to get into the water because it's been too dangerous. this is what the alameda creek looks like now, more like a river, swollen and deep with rapids. rescuers are concerned about branchers or other debris in the water that could be dangerous for dive teams. the alameda county sheriff's department said the driver crossed the center line and clipped another car. then she slid off the road and into the creek. people who live in the area say the road gets slippery. >> we knew it had to have been pretty serious, yeah. because we seen everybody, the rescue people, looking along the river there. like they were looking for something. >> the water is cold. so hypothermia. it is a sad situation. >> pictures taken by our media partners, the bay area newsgroup, show searchers along the muddy banks. the driver is still being called missing this mornin

let's check in with abc 7 news reporter alyssa harrington. where are you? >> where the wind is sure picking up and it has been raining on and off throughout the day. you might notice that the pacifica municipal pier is empty. usually it is lined with crab fisherman and fishing poles but because the city closed the pier throughout the weekend to prepare for what could be a dangerous storm. >> makes me nervous. >> tara lived above the eroding coastline in pacifica where crews started filling a sinkhole in the cliff. the giant hole has been blocking the path to thech off esplanade avenue. >> i love the beach and i would love to get back down there so it is sad we have not been able to. >> choppy waves have been pounding the sea wall with much more on the way. the city even closed the pier for the entire weekend because of high surf. >> hardware stores like kohl's in san francisco are seeing a crush of customers buying flashlights, batteries and other storm-related items. >> a roof tarp for patches on the roof. wat water dams to try to prevent flooding and ponc

abc7 news reporter elissa harrington live for us in the east bay. >> reporter: this might not come as much of a surprise for people who take b.a.r.t. on a daily basis. as we know just yesterday, there was a system-wide delay that happened right in the heart of commute time. people were late for work. they're also sick of crowded b.a.r.t. trains. and it turns out that ridership approval is at the lowest it has been in 20 years. at the same time, though, ridership is up. this has forced more passengers to stand and riders are packed like sardines during commute times. more than 5,000 people were surveyed. here's a look at one of the findings. 69% of riders overall say they are satisfied with b.a.r.t.'s overall service. that's down from 74% in 2014. the largest decline in satisfaction, noise on trains, which is down 10%. people are also unhappy about the lack of seats and the reliability of elevators. i just checked and there are four elevators out of service today. a $3.5 billion bond measure was passed by voters, which of course should be used to make some improvements. and the agency

elissa harrington is live in dublin. >> reporter: good morning.ted to show you the backup here on the westbound lanes along 580 where just up the road about half a mile is where that big rig caught fire last night around 6:30. you can see there's some slow traffic but the good news is a chp officer told me that all lanes should reopen within minutes. we were at the scene a little bit earlier this morning, and they were clearing some of the debris. this big rig caught on fire last night at around 6:30, closing five lanes. it was an absolute nightmare. these are some pictures that show that big rig on fire. it was carrying mail. and crews worked throughout the night to try and clear the lanes and make sure it would be safe for this morning's commute. now, again, a chp officer told me that they should have this whole area clear within minutes. of course, there's still going to be some congestion as people get back into the flow of things but the good news is that they're trying to get everything back to normal as soon as possible. reporting live alon

. >> alyssa harrington has the story. >> reporter: the kennels at contra costa county animal services in martinez are jam packed. smaller dogs are sharing cages. some larger dogs are down to a half kennel. >> we are getting to that capacity level, so you will see animals that are multiple animals to a kennel here. >> reporter: just yesterday, 42 animals were dropped off, a mix of strays and surrenders. the rescue networking organization, smart paws pet resources, shared this photo showing nine dogs in one kennel. animal services spokesperson steve berto says they're reaching a critical level, something that tends to happen this time of year. >> the winter months we generally see a higher level of intake. a lot of that is due to inclimate weather, particularly with high winds blowing occupy fences and doors and whatnot. >> reporter: he said this week's storms might have caused more animals to run away from home or get lost. volunteers like wendy wolf are hard at work. >> yeah, where are we going to put them. it puts a strain on every part of the shelter because we have to figure out ho
