after the fort was abandoned, the city of harrisburg was founded a year later in 1816. hereow a family had a farm on this land. they knew what these earth works were and what fort meigs was. they only grazed cattle here instead of tilling it up. without them, this would not be here. the ohio history connection was able to reconstruct the fort to look as it would have. we hope that when visitors come andort meigs, they pause think about what happened at the fort. we tend to forget about the war of 1812. i think it is important for us to remember that men fought and died for this war, both american, british, native american, canadian. we want to honor and remember all of those people. away withople to come a sense of reverence, a sense of respect for what took place here. when -- we are woodlawn cemetary in toledo. this is a perfect example of the rural cemetery movement built by toledo's elite. the one built behind us now was built for a ticket agent for a local railroad. he had an office downtown. ks saw newsboys and boot blac working the street every day in the 1980's.
