i have the great honor and privilege to introduce and to introduce karen harrison who is also receiving this award tonight. karen harrison is a registered nurse and clinic manager at the native american indian center in oakland and a member from a tribe here in california. she started out as a medical assistant in 1985 with the native american health center and went on to get her registered nurse degree so she's been with the health center for 27 years and 21 of those years she has been a registered nurse. [applause] karen has greatly contributed to the native american health center and sharing her knowledge and wisdom with the whole agency and this goes out to the community as well and serves as a chair on the advisory community and board member of the friendship house and coached american indian children in the tribal athletics program and known as the coworkers as the patient whisperer and when there is a patient that is angry or agitated she is always successful in calming them down. she is a mother and her with her family tonight. can all her kids wave? and she is here with her sis

that is a harrison, proposal chuck hagel has put on the table.lesh it out a little bit more for us? guest: after he gave a press briefing, a small group of us from think tanks were allowed to have a meeting with secretary hagel and we are able to asking questions and flesh it out a little bit. first of all, they are actually not proposing any specific changes right now. they outlined a number of options. some of these are options that they tried in the past with congress and they failed to get them implemented. some of them are different takes on similar things. but really what they are doing here with the sect -- what secretary hagel has laid out, is a process. he asked the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff and the other service chief and the senior enlisted members to get together and put together a set of recommendations and compensation reform and to bring them back. he has given them a target of $50 billion in savings over the next 10 years, which is relatively modest compared to the total amount of military compensation over the next 10

we are joined now by todd harrison, founder of minonville.u, todd. >> great to see you, liz. liz: interesting two years, two years ago, did you think the dow, nasdaq, and s&p would jump after the credit wore -- worthiness was questioned? >> i don't know how many worthiness is in it. whatever cent they had, i think, is long gone. i'm not that surprised, but what's interesting, at least to me, is the difference between a stock stock market rally and economic recovery. the stocks at all-time highs in many cases, but the economy is not doing well, some 2% gdp growth, and investors now, once upon a time, the greenspan, and now the ben bernanke call, and that's dangerous. liz: describe of the ben bernanke call as you see it. what would you do to protect yourself in advance of what you believe happens, and is it a correction? i hate using -- what do you think? >> i've been wrong, too cautious this summer, but i think that, you know, when you see consumer confidence, that level's last seen in august of 2007, i think, you know, you at least have to pa

host: let's let todd harrison jump in. guest: several things. in terms of the pay in terms of members of the uniform military, you can look it up online. there is a good calculator out there that dod puts out there. i do not have the web address off the top of my head, but if you google military pay, you will find it. there is a dod website where you can look it up. rank, years of service, number of dependents, and it will give you the cash compensation so you can see for yourself how much the general officers are making. as far as the food stamp question, that was an issue years ago. a very low ranking enlisted person with a large number of dependents, in certain circumstances there were some members of the military who were qualifying for food stamps. congress took note of that. they took a number of steps to prevent that from occurring. prevent that from occurring. to the best of my knowledge, that is an extremely rare situation today. you would have to be a very low rank, e1, e2, e3, and you would have to have a very large number of dependen
