. ♪ ♪ >> eric: that's harry chapin. the legendary singer was tragically killed in a car crash on new york's long island. he was on his way to play a free concert. chapin was also a devoted activist spending much of his time and fortune to help communities across long island. he started the nonprofit group long island cares to help the hungry and those facing food insecurity. this coming friday, the group will pay tribute to him with a benefit and unveil a new sculpture of chapin at its headquarters, the bronze bust you see there was sculpted by a woman who grew up on long island and was chapin's neighbor. the event also celebrates what would have been his 88th birthday and the 50th anniversary of the hit single taxi you just heard. the funds will go towards chapin's dream of a hunger-free long island. the sculptor is joining us now. harry chapin was dedicated to the issue of relieving hunger on our nation and on long island. why was he significant for those who may be unfamiliar with his charity work beyond his music? >>
