we're joined by harry enten. rising gas prices, gas shortages. >> it's both a national story and more of a regional story. look at the regular average prices. look at this. wednesday, $3.01, the highest since 2014. a year ago just $1.85 but also a regional story. look at this. gas stations without fuel as of wednesday at 5:23 and these numbers have been climbing. north carolina, 69%. virginia, 52%. south carolina, 48%. georgia, 46%. there's been a run on the gas as people have been going to those stations filling up their tanks even though they may have had a half a tank of gas. >> this is a manmade problem beyond just the cyberattack. we look toward the summer when they get this ransomware figured out, you still see some potential issues plaguing us. >> i think that's exactly right. there could be issues. could be summer gas problems. we have a lack of drivers to drive the gasoline to the gas stations. right now tank drivers parked, 20% to 25%. that's up 10%. also a lot more people are going to be taking vacatio

harry enten, the wizard of odds, is here. what are we seeing in terms of who got hit, hardest?southeast united states. and what's so interesting, it's -- it's throughout the south and places that weren't, necessarily, seeing these fuel shortages, say, yesterday, are now seeing them today. so, washington, d.c., look at this. 73% of gas stations, without fuel. north carolina, 70%. south carolina, 53. virginia, 50% without fuel. even down in florida, 29% without fuel. and what we've seen, throughout the last-couple of days, is sort of as the news has gone out about those shortages, more people are panic buying. and these numbers have been rising, a lot of these different places. >> you know, i was looking at gas buddy. you know, you can't cross index for income, and i always wonder whether or not this type of distribution of pain is also indexed by socioeconomics. like, if you go in the poorer areas, i wonder if the stations there stay at the same percentages or even higher. despite officials trying to urge calm, as you just said, panic buying is going and it's pushing prices. how

joining us now is cnn political writer and analyst harry enten.ou have a vivid, vivid demonstration of how rules are different in different places? >> yeah. look at this. so these are retailers, sports teams, how they respond to the new cdc guidance dropping their mask requirements. we have all these different places on the left side, cvs pharmacy is dropping them. can you tell me what the exact difference is between a cvs pharmacy and a walgreen's? all i can tell in my local neighborhood is the cvs pharmacy has a self checkout versus the walgreen's that doesn't. for the most part, these are very similar stores dropping the mask requirements and keeping them. this could create a lot of confusion i think because folks simply put aren't going to have this at the top of their minds. wait a minute, do i have to wear the mask if i'm fully vaccinated or don't i? >> i get it. check the sign on the door on the way in. >> you read when you go to the store. >> good way to know if you're supposed to wear a mask walking into a store. all right. one of the iss

the wizard of odds, harry enten, is here to show us why it's true, no matter how you want to slice itdown, harry. so it's got to be shoot down proof. let's start with the big one. money. what do you see when you look at the vaccine gap and class? >> sure. so, you know, look at the top-25 states for vaccinations right now. and look at the poverty status in those states. look at this. you see a lot of this yellow-orange on your screen. that means, below average for poverty status in most of those states. only, i believe, three or two of those states on the screen. two of them are above average for poverty. what does that mean? it means the states that are getting vaccinated the most have the fewest number of poor people in them. and this is something we have seen in the polling, as well, right? where wealthier people have gotten much more of the vaccines. that's partially an access -- you know, access to the vaccine. it's partially because a lot of these poorer people have been at work, and they haven't been able necessarily to take off the time. but this is one of the big problems that

for that we turn to the wizard of odds, harry enten.fety having on people looking for work? >> it's having, in my opinion, a huge impact. we know where the jobs haven't come back are in lower wage positions. what we know from the polling is people who make less than $75,000 a year, that is the place where we see the highest uptick in terms of workers not believing that there is safety. just 55% are satisfied with the conditions at work if they make less than 75,000. versus 73%, a huge drop off what we saw in 2020 from 2019 in terms of worker satisfaction of safety in that less than 75k group. so, there's no doubt in my mind there are a lot of workers out there saying those workplace conditions aren't necessarily where i want them to be so why don't i stay home instead? >> in other words, the less money that you're earning, the more likely that you have an increased level of concern about getting covid if you go back to the job? >> that's right. and those blue collar jobs. that's exactly right. you're in the factory dealing with a lot of
