let's bring in cnn's senior data reporter, harry enten to answer all our questions. y, good to see you, as always, my friend. what's the big picture view on what we're seeing play out in areas of the country where people are vaccinated versus not vaccinated? >> john, it's a pretty simple picture as far as i'm concerned. this is the new coronavirus cases seven-day average. look at this, top 25 most vaccinated states we have 7 new cases per 100,000 residents on average. look at the bottom 25 most vaccinated states, look at that, 16 new cases per 100,000. so double the new cases in the bottom 25 vaccinated states versus the top 25 vaccinated states. so if you're looking for one number that gives you an indication that the vaccines are working, this clearly shows the most vaccinated states having half the cases than the bottom 25 most vaccinated states. >> and then there's the additional factor of severity. the same pattern apply to those who contract the virus requiring hospitalization? >> it absolutely does, john. so look here. this is the u.s. coronavirus current hospi

joining me now is cnn senior data reporter, harry enten. but cases, on the rise in the united states. >> yeah, john. you know, we have been pulling up this map, a lot, because we like to see a lot of green. that means cases are dropping in this week, versus the previous week. now, we are actually seeing more red and orange than we are seeing green. which indicates that, in more states than not, specifically really in the southern part of the country into the great plains, that cases are rising unfortunately. >> rising but, still, low. >> yes. so, you know, look, it's all relative. and what's important to point out here is look how high cases were at the beginning of the year. look at that. we were basically getting 250,000 new cases on the seven-day average. even here, you can barely see the rise. if you really zoom in, you can see it. it's that 10%. but when your number's so low, you can have a percentage-case rise and the total number of cases that rise is not actually that great. >> this is -- i mentioned it coming in -- this is largely a

joining me now, harry enten favorite sun of new york city.hat's right. it was the first time the city used it. if you looked at the initial ballots, this was the first round, people's first choice, eric adams was way ahead of the field here, 31%. kathryn garcia, 20%. kathryn garcia and eric adams ran as mainstream. maya ran as progressive democrat. this is the first time new york city used rank choice voting. and rank choice voting we weren't exactly sure what was going to happen. here is what happened as we jump ahead in the rounds here. this is round six, seven and the final round of eight and the key nugget here round eight you see eric adams, 50.5% to kathryn garcia 49.5, a difference of less than 10,000 votes. what i should point out that's important here is the rank choice voting almost caught eric adams, right? you see kathryn garcia was third in round six, eliminated wily in round seven, ten points back. garcia received the vast bulk of the wily votes but it wasn't enough and eric adams is your winner. >> eric adams, kathryn garcia, a
