it has been my biggest question, harry enten, over the course of several weeks, if you're losing by a and yet, harry, what's today's number? >> all right, what phil says makes a lot of sense. that's a first for him. this morning's number is minus 44 points. that's chris christie's net favorability rating among republicans. that is the worst on record for any presidential candidate within his own party, dating back since at least 1980 at this point in the primary. minus 44 points. that's why you don't attack donald trump, because if you attack donald trump, you become unpopular with republicans. it's not just chris christie at minus 44 points. how about asa hutchinson, minus 18 points net favorability rating. far more republicans have a unfavorable view than a favorable view. how about mike pence? minus 17 points. will herd wasn't even on the debate stage, even he has a net negative favorability rating at minus 17 points. did you hear the pun intended with the heard and hurd there? so who's gained? who has done well or boosted their favorability? >> who are the two people who have seen

harry enten joins us for more. what does the new study show?> really? >> i know it's a big surprise. diet cream soda is my thing, not marijuana. but a lot of americans have in fact at least tried -- >> have you listened to doo by brothers? >> i have listened to doobie brothers. i like one toke over the line. i was very surprised my mother knew what was was. the amazing thing is now half of american adults have at least tried marijuana once in their lifetime. we have crossed the 50% threshold. look at this trend line we see here. if you look back in 1969, only 4% of americans had ever tried marijuana. so we see this gradual increase, and we have finally hit 50%. i'm not one of them, but i'm guessing that one of the people in this room probably has, based on those numbers. >> so, in ohio, this measure is on the ballot in november. how much more popular is marijuana legalization today? >> it's incredible. again, the trend line here is just tremendous. back in the late '60s, well less than 20% of americans believed that marijuana should be legal. l

for more let's -- cnn senior data reporter harry enten.ee you. >> a few days away at least, time enough to go to take a poll. have you seen anything that indicates that the debate, the mugshot, any of it moved contours of the? race >> and not really there was a reuters poll that was taken last thursday into last friday, so right in the middle, right of when the mugshot was taken on thursday night after the gop debate and, what do we see? we see that donald trump still has a commanding lead in this republican primary north of 50% of the vote, now this is just one poll, i'll be interested to see other polling data, but this matches up very much in line with the averages that we saw before the debate, that is trump at this point looks like a runaway train and nothing that occurs, at least at the end of last week, at least preliminarily, seems to have shifted that narrative. >> with domain investigations into trump happening simultaneously, at the same time, what does the data show about how likely voters are responding? >> so this to me is th

harry enten has pointed out, there's no historic example of somebody overcoming that big of a margin on and win the nomination. >> for some of these candidates, this is going to be the first time anyone who's really heard their name. for example, doug burgum is really leaning into that. this is a really huge opportunity for him. let's take a listen to what he says about this debate. >> we're excited to be on the debate stage, the least-known candidate on there. i trust that if we can show that we're a credible alternative, that we can deliver the things that americans are looking for because americans do want this country to move forward. they want presidential elections to be about the future, a vision for the future. then we have to offer that. >> so, bakari, what do you make of his comment there? is that what he needs to do to go get more supporters? instead of focusing on trump, to lay out his vision for the future? >> i mean, he should probably be doing something else with his time. i don't know, running a state or, you know, becoming a fox news contributor, writing a book maybe
