i mean walk into any state capital you can pick hartford. i know you were in kansas recently you can go to any state capital in the country and you will see that the next century of american life is being talked about and decided upon without any input from the stakeholders in that future without any input from the taxpayers of tomorrow. i think that's a real problem. right if you're not at the table, you're on the menu, right? that's the same and and i think you know you bring up a good point of having the energy behind you right of the the people who believe in your passion in your vision. we talked about some of the mechanics of getting a campaign started and part of that is is building a team around you part of that is raising money and for most candidates, it's their least favorite part of the job fundraising and i think in the book you you describe a scene where you launch your campaign in your dorm room and completely just tap into what was i think for for you at the time an impossible sum that you raised specifically from from young

i started working for an aerospace company with the aircraft in hartford, connecticut. i'm sure you have been on planes , any american airlines, any plane. my point is that -- i retired at 45 years. i started right out of high school, went to an apprenticeship. when we were talking about it in the late 1980's, they were talking about automation. we had a study joint with the company. automation, what does that mean? you are going to have less people in more automation. what are you going to do with these people? you are going to have less workers, but you have automation. some of these people are in their 40's. they are not ready for retirement. they say we are going to retrain everybody. we are going to have better jobs. you say that. if you have a machine that replaces five workers, you got 20 or 30 of these machines with four plans. you have one machine that can do five, 6, 7 employees' worth of work. strong negotiation. we told them no. these people have high school education. some don't. they are not like a toolmaker or electrician. we want to hammer out some of th

um, so the next one has a couple votes in our question answer forum, and it said, how did hartford become insurance capital united states? so i am an expert in the really early part of this which is hard for being on a river right so lots and lots of early new england towns on. richardson but also in connecticut if you were a town on the river you are gonna possibly have a little insurance brokerage or once the age of incorporating begins. you might have a little corporation and or a bigger corporation or a corporations. that's next to your local bank, which is again one way that the higher stratum of early local merchants managed to or choosing to pool and manage their risks and make money at the same time. so they a lot of times these. corporations depend on local knowledge as they get started. my understanding is that harford becomes a big insurance capital later in the 19th century, and so first by the it so industrialization really fuels the fire insurance business when big corporations start needing fire insurance and paying a lot for it. so insurance becomes big money that way life
