why go for her, harvey? what was the thinking?nk kristin scott thomas who i first worked with on "the english patient" is one of the smartest, best actresses. we've had a long association. i was one of the producers on broadway. she's magnificent. we've done four or five movies together. you know, she brings the truth to the movie. she brings the validity to the movie and has lived in paris, as well. so she has all of it. it's when you seept her, you see the truth and you feel the pain, the suffering and also the humidity and optimism that she brings to the movie. >> i'm sure harvey will agree with me, the young girl who plays sarah, she's an amazing actress. this is one of her first big roles. she's 10 years old. when i met her for the first time on the set and she said i'm your sarah, and she was. this was all of a sudden there in front of me, the little girl that i had imagined and that i had brought to life in my book and there she was. and she is, you will see, a wonderful actress and so poignant. >> it's not often that write

let's talk about relief, harvey. when do we see any relief and who sees it first? >> well, the northeastern part of the country, new england and down to new york is going to see it first and it will happen by sunday. that's when the jet stream will shift. right now, almost the entire country is stuck with incredible heat and most of it a lot of humidity. but as the jet stream shifts south across the northeast, cool air will come down from canada. the problem is, the middle of the country, the plains, the southern states, i don't see a break coming any time soon. >> no relief for them for possibly weeks. harvey, thank you. >>> and we learned today that the intense heat is unleashing another kind of misery. swarms of new mosquitos. two new breeds in major cities. and abc's linsey davis reports authorities are now concererd about the diseases the new breeds could carry. >> reporter: it isn't just the heat that's biting. this week's high humidity is causing an explosion of mosquitoes, including some newer species that have experts worried. >> this is, by far, the highe

supervisor kim: i apologize again because i forgot to bring harvey rose's report in with me, but i had a quick question. the question about having the interim deputy directors over the course of last week. i just want to know, what were the long-term plans for the third interim deputy director? i'm sorry, there are two deputy directors currently, but now there is a third interim deputy director? >> right. we have lawrence cornfield directed to the office so we have an acting as deputy director so we can make a decision as to whether that deputy director is sufficient, and we also have a vacant position. ed sweeney is filling in as both the inspection -- director of inspection services and deputy director of code enforcement. supervisor chu: including your vacant position in the interim, how many deputy directors do you have? >> we have four. supervisor chu: there was a question posed to our office, and we were not able to figure out the answer. it was whether by charter, dbi was only allowed to have two deputy directors. >> that

joining me from bangkok is our correspondent, rachel harvey. and rachel, there are fears that this polling day could be marched by violence. -- marred by violence. what's the mood like on the ground? >> well, i think to be honest, most people think the polling day itself will probably pass off fairly peacefully. there have been a few instances of violence during the campaign. normally at a local level. polling day itself, most people here think will be orderly, will be peaceful, and people will turn out in large numbers to cast their ballots. the real question mark is what happens after that. firstly, will one part be able to get enough seats to form an absolute majority and then by right to form the government? or will it be a case of one party wins the most seats but not enough to be an absolute majority and therefore we're going to see a period of horse trading while they try to get other small parties to join them in a coalition? it is in that period when effectively we have a lame duck government period. and while this is horse trading goi

i had also just joined the board of the harvey milk club as up rich coordinator. i said, "i am not sure how much commitment i can offer. let me see what it is like a puzzle i help them produce their help the kids been go fund- raiser. -- what it is like." i helped them produce their help the kids -- healthy kids bingo fundraiser. they want me on the board. we will see how it goes. my special understanding of outreach and communication brings to the table and something i am very proud of, they just put out a youth- produce seed the -- used produced -- youth-produced cd. i am working on getting combination training for these organizations. i really enjoy my work. i am not a parent. but i see and am anxious to work with the youth commission around some of the issues in my life. i believe the new generations to have a clear vision of what is coming and how to make things better, often. i am just going to say a bit about the milk club. i am their outreach coordinator and got them to join the alliance to save lives, to help advocate, another example of integrating in th
