joining me now is our very own chris hayes.would seem like there are solutions here, right? more than 70% of low wage workers get no paid sick days at all. you have a minimum wage that's no longer a livable wage. and if you look out on the political horizon, the prospects of these are going to be uphill political battles. do you think couching in gender helps at all? >> i don't know if it helps politically. it is the truth. the way the bottom wrung of the american wage scale works is it is a very female space. women as you cited are a majority of minimum wage workers. there's an entire universe of professions that are growing that can't be outsourced that are overwhelming done by women and paid very, very little. women more and more have gone into the work force, but there has not been an equal alteration in who does the child care. you have a labor market and a kind of domestic set of expectations that just put more and more expectations on women, particularly low wage women. >> gender neutral work practices were traditionally

near market and octavia streets in the city's hayes valley neighborhood. we sent kron four's jackie sissel to the scene. he joins us live from san >> you can see that the police investigators and vehicles are still out here. this is between octavia. the body of the victim has been taken away by the medical examiner's office. i had a chance to talk to a detective and they do not have a lot of information. we do know and that about 3:00 a.m. this morning detectives and police are called to the scene and at 3 store unit apartment complex and that is where they found the body of a man who was stabbed at least once in the lobby. the the person was pronounced dead and basically the locked down this entire building hoping to find evidence. police were going up and down the fire ladder to get 10 and out of the building pripe. people were brought outside and there were questions. the they're not releasing any information about the suspect or suspects. >> as far as the victim, they stated it was a male victim was pronounced dead. as i get more information i will pas

steve hayes and elise viebeck and charles krauthammer. steve?think what is particularly discouraging is the fact that the united states fought so hard in those towns and others in western iraq to win free dom for the iraqis alongside the iraqis and sunni tribes and now that is basically gone. what we saw over the last couple of days is just a culmination of a long build-up of fighting from the current version of al qaeda in iraq. and you've had a series of complex suicide bombings leading up to this. some two dozen suicide bombings in october in western iraq by this group, according to the author tative subject on these matters and it is a long series and this has been coming for quite a while. >> elise, is there a sense that the administration is dealing with this in any way, shape or form, is capitol hill engaged on this? >> well certainly the administration is quietly sending many weapons to the iraqi government in order to combat this rising tide of al qaeda in the west. but there is bipartisan opposition on capitol hill and skepticism, fran

as chris hayes mentioned, a lot of what he's done is promise change. the government hasn't decided how it's going to move this database and where it's going to move the metadata 215 information. there's a lot of details -- the devil is in the details. the other thing we don't know about is the nature of the presidential directive. i suspect it's top secret plus. i'm not sure whether we'll get a modified version. a lot of what he's telling us we can't know. i suspect he went too far for the intelligence community and not far enough for civil liberties advocates but i suspect there was no alternative. i don't see how he could have moved closer to either side. he's tried a middle path and it's always hard to be successful when you do that. >> here's one of the more interesting parts i think coming out of this speech. the president acknowledging that the collection of this bulk metadata also acknowledging the way we are storing this metadata is not the best way to do it, but he didn't seem to say, okay, this is precisely who should be holding the metadata,
