i am an urban farmer and resources toward native and part of the hayes valley farm community. i did submit a brief report to all of you via e-mail. i won't go into details because it has been covered by a lot of people. thank you for introducing the legislation. i support it and i am glad to see it included the most current draft of the legislation. i think it is a good start and i think we could dedicate a lot more. the benefits of urban agriculture to quickly some up, i support the legislation and welcome a cohesive program. recreation, education, blade reduction and the transformation of urban space. i know people have a wide range of opinions and experiences and i hope many of these community members comport to share their views and we can help to shape truly effective legislation that provides for a fully funded, fully staffed urban agriculture program for the city of san francisco. i would also point out any program created will most certainly benefit every district of the city. with job creation and job training, i would like to emphasize there are many people in this c

i'm tyrone, a resident of hayes valley. along with myself and a couple other members, we were able to come together and start a community owned and operated business. we specialize in doing recycling and composting in low- income housing units, multi- family units. i am here today to speak on the importance of having an opportunity to do some recycling in the neighborhood where, especially coming up in the projects and stuff, it was really dirty, and having the opportunity along with my neighbors and people that live with me and grew up with me to get back to our community in a different way. we have three sites are in now and are trying to expand. we started from nothing and have come together as young men and women and have business development means, developing relationships with recology, department of environment, oewd. we started with seven or eight employees. we have 17 to 18 employees now. we are in charge of the marketing process. these brochures are uniform. and we just want to be a part of the fight to help san f

hayes valley -- this is a place to be, or the mission, because they have the fabric of the smaller streets. there is the small kind of building with a critical mass of residents close by, who want to have things that are walkable. this is the challenge of market street, there is not a lot of real residence because we did not focus on that, so there are people on a daily basis getting their coffee or looking for a dry cleaner, creating that. you don't really get that until you have enough people buy enough areas, so how do you do that without completely changing the texture or the affordability, or the complexion of the neighborhood. this is something we don't have the easy answers to. in suburban communities, you have the town houses so you help -- hope that you get the socio- economic diversity. but you hope that you can kind of create that and we are in a different position because we do not control what people choose to build. this makes it a little bit more challenging in terms of figuring out the kinds of housing or the projects people bring to us but we have an opportunity in terms o

my name is christina johnson and my son was murdered in the hayes valley apartment complex in 2011. i unfortunately had the opportunity to see my son murdered, laid out there murdered and i actually didn't get any kind of response for me and consolianses for my family, my other three children at this time that this happened. he was laid out for a couple of hours and i did not know it was him. it is really important in my experience that we get some kind of response help. i had to deal with funeral arrangements with the medical examiner's office. i didn't even get a chance to see my son until the day of his wake because of the trauma that he sustained because of the injuries that were given to him. he was shot in the head. that was very trauma advertising. i went to the medical examiner's office. i spoke with them. they turned me away. i broke down and cried. i couldn't call anybody. i didn't have anybody to talk to deal with this. for the families, it's really important us to have some kind of help in that manner. i have three other children, one is 18, he is a boy, and then i also
