and that's what police here in hayward are taking a look at here. good morning, sam, to you and to kris. this is the industrial overpass where it all began before 5:00 this morning. a man only described as in his late 20s was here, but somehow he ended up in the far right lane of southbound 880 here in hayward. the question for investigators now is, was there someone else here on the overpass with him and was there foul play? the chp got reports of a body laying o ing oing on the roadwa5 this morning. the driver of a big rig felt a vibration and pulled over. traffic control officers got here, saw the body, and blocked off the two right lanes of the 4 as well as the on-ramp on to southbound 880 as investigators tried to collect evidence. chp responded, but hayward police have taken over because of the chance that something criminal took place on the overpass, which is the city's jurisdiction, meaning this could be a homicide. >> determining exactly what happened. if it was a crime that occurred on the overpass, we would approach it totally different,

it happened on the industrial parkway overpass on 880 in hayward this morning. the investigation shut down part of 880 causing a very slow morning commute. the backup as you can see from our nbc chopper reached as far north as oakland. michelle roberts joins us from the hayward police station with the details. michelle? >> reporter: raj, i just spoke to an officer a short time ago. he said there's not much information he can give at this point. investigators have been trying to solve this case, they've been asking a lot of questions to witnesses, and people who knew the victim. let's take a look at the scene this morning on 880. it caused a huge delay this morning. just before 5:00 a.m. chp was called to 880 south in hayward where a man was hit by a car, after he somehow went over the guardrail, on the industrial parkway overpass. hayward police took over the investigation which could possibly be a homicide. police aren't releasing the victim's name, but i did talk to a friend who believes this death is suspicious. >> he was a really good person. he didn't deser
