hbo continues to rack up subscribers. warner media enjoying a huge run at the box office with godzilla versus kong. jason joining me now in an exclusive interview. you are launching a new ad supported version of hbo max coming in june at a lower price point. you have been making some of the most controversial moves. what gives you so much conviction this is the right strategy and how many subscribers do you think you can rack up? >> i will answer your second question first, which is i think this feeling on ott is higher than most people are talking about today. if you look at the number of people on the planet and the fact everyone loves to be moved through story, they are feeling a lot more than 700 million paying subscribers, which is what most people are talking about when it comes to over-the-top services. we are playing for the long game and a ceiling much higher. do your first question about conviction, we are focused on the customer. because we are focused on that, it gives us cause damage -- gives us confidence to

coming up hbo max and the box office roaring after the blockbuster day of godzilla versus kong. talk about warner media's hybrid release strategy and what it means for the future of moviegoing. that is next. this is bloomberg. ♪ emily: hbo max had the biggest increase in video streaming last week, clash, godzilla versus kong debuted. the platform seeing a 5.4% jump in users launching its mobile app, according to bloomberg's analysis of data. joining us for more, lucas shaw. the most surprising thing is, people went to theaters to see it, even though it was also available at home. what do you make of the success of this hybrid strategy, for this one movie, in particular? lucas: it is the first movie where we have seen people go in droves to the box office. i think it is a vote of confidence for theaters, for studios, who feel that when theaters are back at full strength, or at least fully opened, that people will want to go. but it also is a vote of confidence in this strategy that at&t had, with hbo max, of using the warner brothers movies to drive subscribers. it has worked out

>> you know, i think it would probably be hbo only because they demonstrate a parallel to netflix. and, you know, i've been wrong about netflix for two and a half years, but, you know, they have strong execution ramping up their own content just like hbo, demonstrated pricing power, and we have to remember that it's not a zero sum game. all that to say i think when you look at the accounting, when you look at the share price versus valuation, hbo is probably the better bet at this point. liz: and, of course, owned by at&t. and as we watch all of this, you know, teddy, what is your buy right now? >> well, if i had a pick, i'm not sure i'd play in that a sand box, but my pick would probably be disney. i think disney clearly has hit a huge home run with their streaming product. but beyond streaming they have so many other things going for them. streaming certainly important to them. so even if the streaming sort of takes a back burner for the short term, they have a lot of other avenues to generate a lot of increased revenue as we all come out and emerge from the pandemic. liz: yeah,
