. >> reporter: supervisor matt heaney was on scene saying tragedy struck his district again this week. >> this is the second death this week from people on our streets. one who was on a bike and one who was walking. this is the most urgent crises we face in the city. >> reporter: the mayor spoke out this week pushing 40 fatal crashes by the year 2024. the city is pushing plans to improve safety, but said that while we wait for these improvements we need short-term safety enhancements which i have instructed the sf mta to do without delay. the san francisco bicycle coalition says the collision is an example of why we need change now. >> if we don't acknowledge that so many people are biking and walking, and that is a good thing, if we don't design streets for us, people will die. >> reporter: it did appear that the person was riding an electric assist bike. the bicycle coalition says those bikes have limits to how fast they can go. but they point out just how dangerous the situation is. you can see the bike lane over here and there is nothing separating the bicyclist and the cars next
