a new report from the centers for disease control and prevention shows the situation heather unruh joins us with more on this. heather the cdc says the obesity : rate is nearing 38% of adults in the united states up from 32% , a decade ago. for the first time the rate is significantly higher for women mostly for black and hispanic researchers don' t know why the rate is still rising. the report comes as americans choices. we drink less soda now and fast food chains serve healthier foods. one expert says to be cautious about the report this study was smaller than others like it. the report also looked at childhood obesity but didn' t see much of a change. that rate remains at about 17%. jc? jc: good news regarding americans and smoking, more are kicking the habit. federal health experts say cigarette smoking declined by a full percentage point from 2013 to 2014. and more good news, a decade ago, one in 5 americans smoked. now that' s down to one in six. there' s some bad news mixed in with the good, while younger american smokers are giving up smoking faster than any other group, many are
