this book, called "hecker narratives" you can see -- "ledger narratives" you can see the various partsnative peoples. this is ledger art. this is basically them sketching on pieces of paper they would find. they were describing -- because they did not have a written language, they were actually describing battle scenes. there were these set symbols for what actually was going on. even before the reservation period, if native americans were defined of other note book or something they could write on they would do ledger art. and for moisture of native-american history we had this art either in their winter counts or in these notebooks and for the battle of little big horn there are quite a few -- we have quite few ledger books which actually describe the battle, and what happened, especially after the battle. these are two of my favorite books. a native american culture. this book i entitled "american indian horse mask" and it talks -- you can see they're very decorative masks on the horses. in here's an example of a much more modern horse mask, but in here -- in this book you can find

the trouble is a long hecker pass the stretch of highway 152 w. of gilroy. this mudslide is still moving? >>reporter: absolutely. we're here at this caltrans roadblock. they have it so far back the mudslide is three miles up the road. to give you an idea of how big it is they say there is enough mud to fill 30 dump trump's -- dump trucks. caltrans is in full triage mode and its latest headache is a slow-motion disaster. >> it is still active in its retro grading.>>reporter: geologists spent the morning studying the mudslides. a massive chunk slid onto the road. the concrete barrier used to be straight and it was no match for 50,000 tons of mud, rock and debris. this is a view from 100 feet up , the ground is soggy end with another six inches of ranking for -- rain forecast. it's not over. >> we did see some tension cracks and i anticipate five or 10 more redwoods will come down as part of the slide. >>reporter: the mudslide has cost one of the made arteries to close. >> it's not inconvenient yet. >>reporter: is it an adventure? further down the road storm ru

you can't go to over hecker pass because that's closed. 125, they're building down dl and limp through watsonville and up. >> the daily drive is now as long as two hours. back roads are not an option because of similar storm damage. >> what a mess. >>> crews are working around the clock on highway 37 in novato. they're installing a corrugated call to keep flood water out. sky7 was over the scene on the three-mile stretch of road that's been closed since last thursday. caltrans has tharzed $8 million to pay for the emergency repairs. so far, no word on when that is going ore open. >>> the santa cruz district attorney is going to announce his findings into a deadly shooting investigation involving an officer. 32-year-old sean arlt was armed with a metal rake during this incident in october. he was pounding on the door of a house near chase and gechal streets, saying that he was going to kill the people inside. officers tased him at first. when that didn't work, an officer shot and killed him. his family says he suffered from mental illness. the police department plans to hold a news conf

you can't go over hecker pass because that's closed. you have to go down to 129 which they're building down there and limp back into watson and commute up. >> reporter: they're not the only ones suffering, so are the delivery trucks and those who depend on the on-time delivery is also hurt. winchester auto uses shelt shuttle vans to provide parts to shops. customers are waiting much longer for those parts. >> we'll say two hours and they'll say 17's closed, suddenly it's four hours. then these shuttles go back and forth. they don't get back and they come back later on then we're down to four, maybe three runs a day. >> reporter: a driver for crystal springs water company says he has to clock on 1 1/2 hours earlier to service customers in san jose. the trip takes him three hours instead of less than one hour. caltrans contractors are working on a berm on the slide side. this is where a mud slide damaged a news van and another truck in two separate incidents. in scotts valley, david louie, abc 7 news. >>> we're keeping a close eye on that
