a brief pursuit on surface streets and then the driver entered the freeway at 73rd avenue near hegenberger in oakland attempted to exit the freeway here at 29th avenue, failed to negotiate the exit properly and ended up colliding behind us at 29th avenue and east ninth. the driver was not wearing a seatbelt, so he was ejected from the vehicle and sustained very serious injuries. when our officers approached the vehicle they saw open containers of alcohol and smelled alcohol on the person of the driver. the driver was transported to highland hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. this is an active collision investigation where we are attempting to dot all the is and cross all the ts. >> reporter: are there any details about the man who was injured? >> hispanic male late teens resident of oakland and we are still trying to obtain positive id through the coroner's office. >> reporter: after the high- speed chase on the freeway what did he crash into? did he come out of the vehicle? >> not so much high speeds. high speed on the freeway was 57 to 80 miles an hour. obviously that's too fas
