juan: heidi burakiewicz, this is that the first time this has happened. can you talk about the lawsuit that was previously filed on this issue? i think it was back in 2013. and how far that got along in terms of legally deciding the government's power in regards to these shutdowns? >> yes, good morning. the lawsuit we filed a few days ago alleges that the government is violating the fair labor standards act, depression-era minimum sets the basic for worker protections in this country. it implies to all -- it applies to all employers. in 2013, after the government shutdown in october 2013, we filed a similar lawsuit come also alleging a violation of this act. in response to the government's motion to dismiss, the judge determine in fact the government had violated the act. the only issue left was whether or not the government was liable for liquidated damages. the court subsequently rolled the government had not acted in good faith when it required all the central workers to go to work and not get paid on the regularly scheduled payday during the shut down

democratic senator heidi heitkamp made a lot of news for deciding to vote against supreme court nominee brett kavanaugh. she's one of several democratic senators who were representing states that were won very heavily by donald trump in 2016. trump won north dakota by about 36 percentage points. and so even in the face of a very difficult re-election campaign, she chose to vote against kavanaugh, and her opponent -- republican congressman kevin kramer -- is favored to win this race so far. he's come out and drawn some controversy for, you know, talking about how this movement with me too has sort of veered into victimization and talked about how members of his own family are strong prairie women and that, you know, he's talked about this movement toward victimhood whereas heitkamp has made this an issue of saying she wants to send a message to women and girls that sexual assault is not acceptable. and i wanted to just lead with that so that i can get into this chapter that i wrote about being a woman in the oil field and coming to live in an apartment that was filled with all women. the
