california and city of piedmont flags grace the corner of vista and heinlein avenues. soon a new black lives matter flag will replace the city colors for the month of august. the vote was taken by the city council at its virtual meeting on monday night. they heard public comment for more than six residents urging them to adopt the measure. >> i want to be able to tell my kids that we live in the city that was on the right side of history. >> i am african-american and i appreciate that you are considering this very important first step. >> the resolution also includes statements rejecting racism and an apology for racial discrimination and piedmont's history. piedmont had a history of racist real estate policies and discrimination. >> the history of piedmont's first lack residents, sydney and thelma dearing and their two children who were driven from their home and piedmont in 1924. >> a calls for a complete review of policies and ordinances for any discrimination or negative stereotyping. more than 70% of residents are white and less than 2% are black. >> i am cognizan
