we hear a lot about the men who went over the lost generation of ernest hemingway and ask fitzgerald. but the women's story really hasn't been told. so i wanted to bring that to the fore in this exhibition, just focusing on the women. and what i found, which is remarkable, is a lot of the reasons why they went to paris. then 100 years ago or more remain issues that we continue to debate today. they're still works in progress. so i think as people go through the exhibition, a lot of the ideas are going to resonate with them even today. and the exhibition starts with this incredible tableau. yes. yes. and believe it or not, this is from a series of seven. if we'd had all seven, nobody would be able to get past this point. we barely got these in the museum. they're so big and they were made for a manhattan townhouse belonging to agnes ernst meyer and her husband, eugene meyer. agnes agnes's portrait is also in the exhibition. a photograph. they went on to purchase the washington post. but agnes meyer, early in her life wanted to be an independent career woman, and she started a career as
