. >> up next, the hoover institution thomas hendricks and was interviewed about this book, america and rogue states in which she looks at the u.s. handling of countries like north korea and pre invasion. this interview was recorded at the hoover institution on the campus of stanford university. >> watching book tv on c-span2. on location on the hoover institution at stanford university interviewing some scholars and professors. right now we are joined by thomas hendrickson, america and the rogue states is the name of his book. dr. hendrickson, how do you define a rogue state? >> well, it is an easy definition. it is a start definition because we used to think there states that manufacture or try to manufacture. many nuclear weapons, biological weapons, chemical weapons. and also happen to be dictatorships, human-rights violators of international law. so the definition is pretty precise. i think most people understand. when we mention rogue states certain states come to mind easily. we think of north korea. we thought of it the same way before the invasion. and there are other state

sexually violent predators under constitution the supreme decisions in kansas versus hendricks and kansas versus crane, the supreme court said that under the constitution in order to civilly commit, to not criminally, but to civilly commit a sexually violent predator, you have to demonstrate two independent factual constructs. one is you have to demonstrate lack of volitional control, which is defined legislatively as mental abnormality which often gets find as a personality disorder. anti-personality disorder. the second construct you have to prove is they're likely to be violent in the future. now on the civil side, those both ought to be factual judgments. does the person lack volitional control and does the person, is the person likely to be violent in the future? if, however, we are actually using at least the first construct, not empirically but we're using it normatively. then we are potentially violating two provisions of the constitution. what you're essentially doing is calling upon the fact finder, whether it's the judge or jury, you're calling upon the fact finder to make a ju

today, security threat group coordinator robbie marshal and jack hendricks have granted a hearing. >>f you saw someone coming into your community or into your services with ill-will or intent to participate in a threat, what would you say? >> i would tell them to go back from where they came. there is no reason to bring ill-will in. it's a sacred place. if one person is sick in the group, we're all sick. if you're in the community, you have a say so. if it's anything that's kind of, you know, controversial, it does get voted on. >> can you elaborate? >> say somebody had a new idea how we salute each other -- >> you say salute, are you talking about greeting. >> like particular hand shakes, like as a fraternalty, people like to set themselves apart. >> you stated that you or your community have a greeting that you referred to as a salute. can you show me what that refers to? >> no, i never said that. >> no, no. >> oh, you mean, we say hail sa which means hello. >> so you weren't referring to a salute like white supremists do what the hitler salute? >> no, sir. >> what is your input on

the first by an author and investigative journalist hendrick smith "whole stole america."eal eye opener. anyone that wants to, i think, really understand america how we got where we are today, where the average american is struggling the way they are. i think it's one of the most thoughtful, as i said, eye opening reads, at least for me, in a long time. and he is someone that i'd listen to before -- a great deal. i would highly recommend the book. and as a policy maker, obviously what policies -- what can we learn from the policies from the last thirty to forty years that may have contributed to this? and where do we go from here? it's a highly relevant to me. [inaudible] i think it's relevant to many others as well. the second book that i read is a rather small one in term of pages. it's relative inquisitive. it's called "ever ancient ever new." it's written by an archbishop, one of the great intellectuals, and he studies the structure of the catholic church, and how best to reform them. during that -- as someone that oversees a very large bureaucracy and many structures

susan hendricks has more. susan? >> the former vice chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, general james cartwright, is the subject of a justice department investigation involving material in a book by "new york times" correspondent david sanger. that's according to a source familiar with the probe. nbc news is reporting that cartwright was told he's under investigation for allegedly leaking classified information about a u.s. cyber attack on iran's nuclear program. cnn has not confirmed that detail. in his book, sanger wrote about the computer virus that affected iranian computers. officials have not commented, nor from cartwright or his attorneys. >>> late word tonight that massachusetts police are seeking an additional man in the murder of oden lloyd, his name is earnest wallace. he is considered armed and dangerous. aaron hernandez is charged with murder in that case. and a source says the former nfl tight end is also being investigated in connection with a double homicide in boston a year ago. >>> a massachusett

susan hendricks with the "360" bulletin. >> a texas woman was arrested and charged in connection withhose ricin-tainted letters sent to president obama and mayor bloomberg of new york. according to court papers, 35-year-old shannon richardson, an actress, initially tried to frame her husband. a grand jury today indicted ariel castro on 329 counts including kidnapping, rape, and aggravated murder of a fetus. he will be arraigned next week. >>> he is accused of holding these women, amanda berry, gina dejesus, and michelle knight captive and sexually abusing them for a decade in his cleveland home. >>> also this -- marijuana and pain medication were found in the blood of the plane operator at the site of that deadly building collapse in philadelphia. that's according to a source with direct knowledge of the investigation. local affiliate wpvi is reporting the crane operator will be charged with six counts of involuntary manslaughter. six people died. 13 other were injured. >>> and in boston, a 2,500-year-old egyptian mummy came out of his coffin today for a rare cleaning and restoration.

joe hendricks says this is all about taking advantage of a red hot pick cup market. >> with the housingend of the segment which is regular cab and super cab versions as well. but we're also seeing growth in the crew cab versions. we're seeing great sales, up 22% so far this year and we expect that to continue. >> i was mentioning ford is trying to leverage its strength in pickup trucks. they have almost 40% of the full-size market with the f-150 to 350s and again they have 11 trim versions. ford has been increasing its f series production to meet demand frankly because they're not only seeing demand for the pickup trucks and the work trucks out there being replaced but also for that recreational buyer. the person who is using the pickup truck when they're driving around town or driving 234 t in the suburbs. profit margins have been near an all-time time in part because of the money they get out of the f-150. on average $10,000 in profit per pickup truck. the reason we're putting gm in here, they are trading in tandem, and, two, remember, gm, guys, has its new pickup trucks coming out la
