i would like to thank sheriff mike hennessey. one thing about this entire process that needs to be made clear is that most of us here in this room believe that he is one of the great public servants. he has been serving the san francisco -- the people of san francisco for the past 18 years. there are many reasons to support the candidacy of mike hennessey and i would like to thank him personally for being able to do this. the job for the interim mayor will be an extremely daunting one. so, this is not a little thing to agree to sit and take that post for 10 months. i would also like to thank mr. lee. the fact that he has also put himself forward speaks highly of mr. lee. as mentioned, he was the director of purchasing, the director of the department of public works, he was the director of the human rights commission. he has worked in almost every area of san francisco government. he has overseen our capital plan. bandwidth he oversees -- he oversees the city's disaster recovery and response. this is a very important issue in dist

first to acknowledge our sheriff, michael hennessey. i have known him literally my entire life. his reputation on questionable. he has served as our share of for over 30 years. good -- as our sheriff for over 30 years. his tenure has been marked in many areas. members from the lgbt community and other minorities, but what i wanted to mention in particular was his attributes as a person. i cannot think of a more honest, trustworthy person full of integrity serving our government today. he is simply a straight shooter, and we are fortunate to have michael hennessey as our share of. he is one of the true gems and -- as our sheriff. he is one of the true gems. secondly, while i know you did not initially vote for him last week, i truly believe and what you did was really in the spirit of the best interest of san francisco, and i knew you take it -- i know you took the chance to ask questions, but i think that shines a great light on what we can do as of board. it is my sincere hope that cooperation continues over the last two years. i want to make sure i mention that to all of you.

when i nominated mike hennessey three days ago, as i indicated at the time, i did so in the spirit of trying to bring this board together, and trying to find someone that we could all get behind, and specifically mike hennessey, because the mayor himself had indicated that he was comfortable with mike hennessey serving in that role, and because the other supervisors on this board indicated that they would support mike hennessey. i don't really know what happened between the time that those representations were made and the actual vote took place. one thing that i will say is that, in my humble opinion, mike hennessey, who is a resident of my district, with all due respect to everyone involved, did not deserve or does not deserve the kind of treatment that he has received. i think that he is one of the most distinguished public servants that we have had in san francisco. i know that he, like mr. li, was not looking for this job or asking for this appointment. in fact, he only considered it after hearing from so many people, including people allied with mayor newsom and mayor newsom him

effort was made here today, as has been said earlier, that one of those candidates was sheriff mike hennessey, based on comments made in the press by mayor newsom, and if there are people, supervisors who are representing ed lee, via what the newsom administration is saying, that belies the very sentiment of looking for some unified approach. it has not happened, so i think it is only prudent that you do your best to shop before you buy. we know ed lee. he has been extremely effective as a public servant and as a leader in the department, but no conversations have taken place whatsoever, and you're completely absent without any context or narrative except through hearsay that is now being inserted by people here on behalf of the administration or ed lee from china, india, we do not have information. at least give we are to rally around a central person, then i would ask those who are trying to solidify this point -- pick mr. lee today to give us the same courtesy that we were trying to do for the consensus candidate but he administration. if not, then something else is amiss here, it is somet
