spencer social statics saying the law does not enact herbert spencer's social statics and many have associated this with a condemnation of socialist darwinism, chewhen, in fact, spencer was not a darwinism. and he wrote a book called "the law to equal freedom." and actually, i just brought along my copy of "social statics" here so you can see it. it has a whole chapter on the rights of women and children. spencer in 1845 was way ahead of his time when it came to advocating for those sorts of rights. but the idea of the law for local freedom inherently brings up the subject of reasonable regulation. pause if, in fact, everyone should be free to do what they want so long as the freedom does not impinge on the freedom of other people that immediately calls for liberty in some way, shape or form. speaking of contracts, the entire body of contract law is a regulation on the making of contracts, says what constitutes a contract, when can they be made and enforced? what are defenses to them is an entire regulation of this? it's something libertarians do not object to. so the issue is not w
