the mother says she attacked the child in a fit of rage. 20-year-old iris hernandez, rivas is facingst degree assault charges. police, fire and ems were called to an apartment here on thursday. that 911 call came from hernandez rivas. >> she stated that she had found her 4-year-old daughter unresponsive in the bathtub. >> reporter: doctors found that 4-year-old girl was suffering from serious the mother indicated she may have fallen in the bath. but the injuries told another story. >> she had a confrontation with the 4-year-old, became angry and kicked her daughter in the abdomen. when she kicked her, the daughter felt backwards, striking her head on the living room wall, at which point she collapsed on the ground. >> reporter: she says the child got up, went into the bathroom and after 15-20 minutes she heard a noise and went in to check on her. that's when she found her unconscious. police say it was almost another hour before she called 911. >> the bruising that was observed on the victim's body was as a result of her striking her daughter with a belt a few days prior. >> reporter
