aborted and herschel walker paid for that abortion.ions in the daily beast came directly from the woman who claims that herschel walker cost her pregnancy and paid for the abortion to terminate her pregnancy. today, herschel walker's lawyer demanded the daily beast reveal the whims identity, which they refused to do. the daily beast reveals quote, she supported these claims with us 575 dollar receipt from the abortion clinic, a get well card from walker, and a bank deposit receipt that included an image of a signed 700 dollar personal check from walker. additionally, the daily beast independently corroborated details of the woman's claims with a close friend she told at -- of the woman's claim with a close friend, she took care of at the -- took care of her in the days after the procedure. nbc news has not yet verified these allegations, that were or independently review the documents. herschel walker responded the accusations this way. >> first question, do you know the woman that is making this allegation? >> i have no -- no idea, bu

the herschel walker story keeps getting worse for herschel walker.er this week, of course, the daily beast first reported that walker, the trump endorsed republican nominee for georgia's senate seat, had paid for a woman's abortion in 2009. the report contained a lots of contemporaneous evidence that has not been reviewed by us here at nbc news. it included the literal receipt for the procedure, that check walker sent the woman, and even they get well card walker apparently mailed her, complete with what sure looks like his signature. now, as we've said, nbc news is not independently verified the stories, this is a the daily beast story. walker vehemently denied the allegation when it first broke. he said he had no idea who the woman making the allegation could be. that seems a little difficult to believe, though, because according to a new report in the daily beast, and that woman who says walker paid for her abortion is also the mother of one of his children. again, nbc news has also not verified this most recent report. in a statement, walker said

now we got herschel walker.ust say that herschel walker, obviously, this -- this situation has something that the -- the donald trump situation didn't have, and that is, you actually have a family member. you have his son coming out and talking about all of the horrible things their family has gone through. it's a tragedy. i don't see this political fodder. i think the real tragedy is that herschel walker is even running in this race because he has never -- by the way, we've all known this for years. he's never appeared at least publicly to be well as a person, and so donald trump has thrown him into the middle of this. it is a tragedy for the entire family and the republicans are sitting back, pretending that nothing's wrong when the son is talking about just how screwed up his life has been. >> no. ah -- now, there's a lot to unpack there, including that fact that you wish there had been somebody who loved herschel walker and could have prevented this. the republican party did not have to put herschel walker u

he's herschel to them. >> that's absolutely right.ou will see a lot more celebrities running for office. and to susan's point, you know, all he really had to do was just go get to that stage and sound halfway decent. and i think that cleared a hurdle for a lot of voters. it's sad, it's disappointing that any party would bring up -- that kind of candidate, but it was a really low bar that i think for a lot of voters, he crossed. and i've said this many times. you know, these candidates are ideological. you don't really care, i think a lot of voters don't particularly care about the policies of herschel walker. they care that he's just a vehicle and a vessel for a republican agenda, at this point. what i hope is that voters saw an extraordinary candidate in reverend warnock, who's run a green campaign. and that they, because of all that's going on in this country right now, they don't want to candidate that adheres a social science term, who is messy. they don't want someone who's going to be, you know, a destruction after destruction.

most republicans will vote for herschel walker no matter what.atter what. but, you know, of course both teams are hoping to get some of those independent voters, some swing voters. they don't need a whole lot in order to win that race. that is why the debate is very important and as you mentioned, d yes, herschel walker has been trying to manage expectations. we know he is not great speaking off the cuff and again raphael warnock speaks for a living as a pastor. so in some ways it is almost like it is raphael warnock's debate to lose. like if he doesn't come out shining, that can be considered a misstep for him because it is considered so evenly matched. and on the fact of herschel walker, as long as he doesn't make any major blunders, which, you know, he has made some blunders in misspeaking and high school leading folks and not always having the facts straight. but i think most people will figure that is about what we expected. so that said, all eyes will be on that debate october 14. >> and lisa, then there is the trump factor. and the trump f

herschel walker was asked about his allegations of past domestic violence.lso, that allegation that he encouraged and paid for the mother of one of his children to have an abortion. the abortion allegation, he once again denied it, saying that that is a lie. and he will not back down from saying it is a lie. walker was asked about reports that he and his church evicted residents from an apartment building, a building the church owns. he says that is a desperate smear launched by walker and his supporters because, he says, they are in a position in this race where they need to stoop to that level and attack, again, in his words, the home church of martin luther king. throughout the debate we saw warnock try to focus on legislation that he has supported in washington, d.c.. highlighting a number of different points, bicep partisan legislation that directly impacted georgians. herschel walker tried to keep the focus on the economy, talk a lot about inflation. warnock tried to paint his opponent and someone who is wholly unqualified to serve in the united states

>> well, it's clear, number one, herschel walker was very well prepared. we know that, in the past, you know, sometimes, impromptu speaking is not his thing, some rambling nonsensical answers. he was pretty obvious, he was very well prepared, and it was clear his strategy was to try to tie senator warnock to joe biden every chance he could. we saw a lot of records, and you could start hearing the crowd reacting to herschel walker peppering up joe biden anytime he could. i think reverend warnock tried his best, number one, to defend his record. he tried his best to humanize themself, and humanize the politics, so he was telling stories and talking about constituents, and talking about the people he has met along the way that have informed his decision making, but again, focusing on saying this is what i have done, this is what i have accomplished, and pushing back on that line that he is tied to joe biden. he talked a lot about being bipartisan talked a lot about saying that he would stand up to president biden, and things like that. >> what do you make of
