and there is weather, hetch hetchy, and weather at san francisco. >> the physical arts wall is comprised high-definition monitors that has a 3-d motion detection that allows you to approach the wall and then to look at the contents that is there in front of you, which is a beautiful artistic narrative. and then as you move towards it, it activates the content that comes up. >> this is one of the applications we developed with communications team at the puc and it's called, and it's about water cycle, how the water comes down from the snow in yosemite, into the mouth of the reservoir, gets treated, produces power, comes all the way down to the city and gets charged and leaves the bay. we developed a motion tracking system taw four cameras on the ceiling here which detects people when they approach the wall and presents information pop ups. so, you can enjoy it from a distance as a landscape, but once again up close there is another level of information that's educational about this facility. >> fire fly by artist ned con is an art installation which rises straight from the golden gate ave

and unlike bottled water, hetch hetchy tap water costs less than a half a penny per gallon. so, it's almost like costless in some ways. it's quality tested over 100,000 times a year and it's highly regulated by the environmental protection agency or the epa. i think the fear of drinking tap water often has been caused by slick and really misleading campaigns by the bottled water companies and over the years there is a certain fear. but i think the countering with a strong public education program, community education, has been critical. and many of you know that my work to work with christina and others within the department of public health to combat childhood obesity has been a passion of mine. but drinking tap water and lots of water has been a key component of a healthier life-style in my family, especially for me as well, the health benefits have been tremendous. in addition to installing a number of water stations throughout the city in recent years,s there's been a lot of work to make water available in schools. i'd like to thank the school board, school district staf

but it also began to be a vehicle to talk about where, you know, our pristine hetch hetchy water. it was a really successful -- a successful education program. we saw the signs on muni bus station, you sawhem on tv. and what actually happened as one outcome of that is anecdotally, people told us that they started to drink more water once they understood where it comes from. but also as people had water quality concerns, some of the concerns that christina alluded to in her presentation, people started calling 311 more. so, we had a 10% increase in water quality concerns and that again became another vehicle to talk to people about where their water came from to test to make sure the water was safe and assure them that, you know, in fact it was safe to drink. we also do tours of our water system. so, community residents and organization has an opportunity to go up to hetch hetchy to see the water system at work. supervisor cohen has been a big supporter of the youth internship program we do in the summer for around the sewer system. so, actually right now we have a number of young
